notes
Last Train Home continues to grow in unexpected and musically profound ways with its fourth full-length CD, "Bound Away." It features the band's globally acclaimed alt-country sound, but also shows more varied influences at work. The record's emotional centerpiece, "Hendersonville" is lead singer and songwriter Eric Brace's stunning tribute to Johnny Cash and June Carter Cash, one that avoids the potential pitfalls of tribute songs, and stands alone as a fully realized work. There's a deep sense of place in these songs. From the howling dogs of East Nashville in "Dogs on the East Side," to the farm and fields of "They Dance Real Close There," to the Arkansas train in "Marlene," to the Western landscapes of the closing instrumental "Bound Away," all the songs seem to carry a little bit of dirt. Passionate music from a band at the top of their game.
Among much critical acclaim, Last Train Home's "Bound Away" received a 4-star rave review from influential British music magazine MOJO, which said:
"Eric Brace is the singer and primary songwriter for Last Train Home, an act who emphasize the 'alt' in alt country. Always the sign of a focused vision, Last Train Home have their own distinct sound, and damned if they don't make great use of the trumpet, surely an Americana first...Instrumentals like the title track are as emotive as anything Brace sings. And that's saying something. His tenor, when combined with his lyrics, is one of the treasures of the whole genre. As is his band."
LTH has appeared on the CBS Late Late Show w/ Craig Ferguson, performed on "Mountain Stage," the syndicated public radio show with Guy Clark and Loudon Wainwright, opened for Willie Nelson and Dolly Parton, and toured internationally.
Give it a listen. You'll be glad you discovered these guys.

Another great set
author: Fred AGot all three first albums in one buying spree and have not regretted it since. They are all on the iPod but if you want to hear the albums at their best and really get into how good their arrangements and harmonies are you need to play them loud on a decent hi - fi. This set contains some oustanding songs - Long Time Gone, Dogs on the East Side (how impressive is the trumpet in some of their songs) and They Dance Real Close There. More alt than country but they can deliver classic country as well as any band that comes to mind.On top of everything is Eric Brace's great voice, one of the most emotive in the genre. A great band that has got better and better. Check out Last Good Kiss.
