SOMEWHERE IN WESTERN MASSACHUSETTS, USA
"But detective, all of our problems as a society are of a sexual nature," retorts Dr Jakoby, of the early nineties mini-series Twin Peaks. With this shred of Freudian knowledge and the fascination of it, the quartet collectively known as Last In First Out (LIFO for short), has set out to decimate the sexual roles we impose upon ourselves in society... or at least fantasize about it within their beautiful wall of fuzzed-out chaos. Their fanatical debut opus Hardcore For Women lulls the listener into a world where confined sexual imagery is blended at warp speed by music too beautiful to be hardcore or metal; too heavy to be pop; too punk to be art rock; yet too progressive and melancholy to be punk. An aural collage amass in confliction but remaining stimulating to the mind. Let's just call it "rock".
Last In First Out was formed as an original band in June of 2000. However, the four members have been playing together since 1998 as a Nirvana cover band. After a few very successful shows playing nothing but 3 hour sets of Nirvana, they soon expanded their setlist to include songs by artists ranging from Radiohead to Faith No More to Michael Jackson. After several cover shows under an old name, the band broke up, but only to reunite several months later as Last In First Out, an original band.
Although LIFO's music could be considered straight, alternative, heavy rock; its members draw from influences as diverse as Hum, Skinny Puppy, Glassjaw, Tool, Tori Amos, Harry Nilsson, Deftones, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Pink Floyd, and Rush. Each member incorporates his influences into every song to create a unique and recognizable style of music. This all comes to a devastating head live, where emotion runs rampant and gives way to total cacophony and euphoric insanity. Cocky huh? Well beneath this artsy fartsy veneer lies 4 very normal young 'uns just as human as you reading this. They had zits when they were younger, they've all had to get uncomfortable physical exams, they all get sick and violently vomit all over the place, they all fart....loud, they've all hurt others and have been hurt themselves, they all have watched The Goonies (and love Chunk) during the wee hours of morning, they all have had their own share of personal tragedies and revelations, and most of all.... they all maintain a sense of humor. They'll be the first to tell you that their music represents not one but EVERY human emotion and has imperfections, as humans generally do.
