notes

As a Progressive Hard Rock band, the Last Act is reviving what everyone thought was dead…true Hard Rock. This has become a confused and blurry genre, which TLA hopes to clarify and revive to it's former self.

A truly unique sound done in the spirit of rock seen in the late 70’s and early 80’s, their new album is a welcome change from the style of rock that has dominated the air waves and the industry for the past 10-15 years.

Songs such as “Struggle” and “The Memory” are anthem songs that resemble a full concert in 7 to 9 minutes each, respectively.

The Last Act consists of 4 members out of Calgary, Alberta, Canada. The ensemble consists of Jeff Larsen (Guitars, background vocals, keyboard), Shawn Speirs (Drums, background vocals), Stan Engelage (Bass), and Colin Murphy (Lead vocals). Work was started on No Good Deed Goes Unpunished in the winter of 2002 with the addition of Stan Engelage. Colin Murphy was added to the band in the winter of 2003, and with 6 songs already conceived, they were hard pressed to finish all 10 by studio time in June 2004.

No Good Deed Goes Unpunished is a true compliment to the songs and bands that influenced all of the members over the years. After the first few tracks were put down in Small World Studios, Henry Small, the album’s producer, realized that there was an undeniable energy and sense of abandonment in the music that needed to be kept. As a result, the approach taken was not one of sheer perfection in presentation; on the contrary, it was more about keeping the raw feel and energy that was inherent to the music and band.

Guys, Your Music keeps us alive here…The best thing to come into my life since Ozzy and Pink Floyd! The beat doesn’t overpower the melody which is amazing! The song structure and
beat connections are totally awesome.

I loved it. It has the sound of hard rock from the 70's and 80s. Great guitars great sound. Sounds like Black Sabbath/Deep purple.
