notes
Composer and wind player (clarinets, saxophones and didjeridoo), overtone singer. Studied in the U.S. (Ph.D., University of California, San Diego).Has recorded, among others, with Charlie Mingus and Peter Gabriel, as well as under his name (Two Views, Anadyomene, Memories of the Rain-Forest, Prima Materia). His book on overtone singing "La voce dell'arcobaleno" is published by Il Punto d'Incontro, Vicenza. Currently teaching at the Florence Conservatory.
Member of the Center for the Creative & Performing Arts and of Petr Kotick's SEM Ensemble, since 1972 began working with extended vocal techniques and in 1973 founded the seminal group PRIMA MATERIA (now on CD for the Milan label Die Schachtel: "almost a legend"). In time, he has been working on a personal synthesis which goes way the conventional space-time coordinates of music.
Roberto Laneri has appeared, as vocalist, composer, performer and lecturer, in a great variety of musical situations throughout the world (a few examples: Evenings for New Music (New York); Metamusik-Festival (Berlin); the Zagreb Biennale; Festival d'Automne (Paris);; Holland Festival; Venice Biennale; Jazz Yatra (India); Time Zones (Bari); Spoleto Festival).
"Roberto Laneri appears as a magician who communicates spontaneously with the forces of nature. ... his music is highly catchy, and evokes participation of the listener spiritually, emotionally and physically: he is no longer a listener at a concert performance but finds himself involved in a ritual". (Bombay, NCPA Quarterly Journal)

NEW REVIEWS:
1-I listened to the excerpts and the work sounds very very beautiful to me. I'm fascinated by the Ellingtonian scent lingering in the folds, as well as by the use of electronics and the ethnic elements.
The whole thing sounds rich, variegated, coherent. In a word: beautiful!

2-Your record is a great clever madness which succeeds in mixing the impossible: jazz, opera, world music, classical music, tribal music. Most important, your music is free in your heart.
Fran Muñoz Antón, programming director, CANAL 9 RADIO, LAS PALMAS DE GRAN CANARIA - ESPAÑA

3- Love it! Great variety of stuff - and varied use of didj. This is all studio work? I've always liked electronic whisperings of well-known tunes- all that dreamlike stuff. Intimations from jazz and sentimentality for sure. I think my favourite was Mood Indigo. Strong didj with pitch shifts in the sound -goose bump stuff!
