Hard-hitting, aggressive Maryland doom metal. Emphasis on riffs, groove, and melody. Nothing fancy, just old school heavy rock.

notes
Land Of Doom was formed in late 2007 by vocalist/bassist Dee Calhoun & guitarist Russ Strahan, with a vision to create a band based around good songwriting skills rather than virtuoso musicianship. Dee and Russ agree that virtuosity has its place, however they wanted their music to appeal to more than just fellow musicians. After several sessions together, the songwriting duo made the decision to add local veteran drummer Mikey Phillips to the fold. A few jams together proved that chemistry, communication and mutual respect were present in the lineup. The band then decided on the k.i.s.s. (keep it simple, stupid) concept and opted to stay a power trio. Land Of Doom began playing live dates in Spring 2008.

Land of Doom
author: MalWhat a great little EP this is. The vocals of Dee "Haystack" Calhoun are very reminiscent of Trouble, clear, perfectly in tune and yet strained and dry, some might say the perfect vocal tone for doom metal, and I'd probably agree. Dee's bass is pretty unremarkable, but it does the job in the background. Russ Strahan's guitar on the other hand is anything but unremarkable. If this guy played any hotter his guitar would bust into flames. Mikey Phillips drumming is what you'd expect from a world class drummer, it's full of energy and brings the songs to life. Talking of which this EP consists of 3 songs 'Bringer of Hate', 'What Ya Do' and 'This Cursed Earth' coming in at around 4, 6 and 7 minutes making this EP more a taster of things to come than a self-contained album. All 3 songs are strongly influenced by Trouble, an association reinforced by the vocals. The songs are excellent, the playing is excellent, the rock-based riffs are excellent. What more can I say, other than it's too short. Maybe I should add the crazy decision to add a shortened 4 min version of 'What Ya Do' at the end. It's a song with a very strong and very memorable melody with gets overplayed as a result. I mean, how can you repeat a track on a 3 track EP? What were they thinking of? That aside, you need to hear this and you can on their myspace, all 3 tracks.
