notes
I can remember as a young child of three or four watching in fascination the movements of the organist at our church. Thanks to my parents, I grew up singing and playing the wonderful hymns of the church. My worship experience is centered around the music, which speaks to my soul in a way that words alone sometimes don't. It is always a pleasure to play the great music of the church, and when I do, I am always interested in the faces of my listeners. The old hymns spark memories in people that I can literally see on their faces. Favorite hymns can rekindle warm feelings of childhood and family, and of being in church. I hope the hymns that I've chosen for this CD trigger feelings of joy for you as you listen. A native Houstonian, I have been the Organist/Artist-in-Residence at St. Luke's United Methodist Church in Houston since 1996. I also write music for the choirs and perform organ and piano concerts both at St. Luke's and around the country.
