Album Notes

I love music! I mean I knew from the time that I was a shorty that I would have something to do with music. I did not know, however, that I would write and produce songs. Elton John, Parliament, Stevie Wonder. Earth, Wind and Fire, 70s and 80s Pop, Fusion. Dave Brubeck, Andre Crouch and Sting/Police. I wanted to make music like all of these individuals. Music that was free from the heart. This is what the Comfort Zone project is all about. I wanted to give you me! I wasn't trying to go after a particular style other than my own. It took a while for me to appreciate my own style. Sounds crazy but when you are trying to get into the business you're always told to sound current. If you want to sell records sound like what's hot. Well, I do want to sell records but I want to write what I feel comfortable doing. Everyone that I meet tells me that they do not like the current state of R&B/Hip Hop music. It seems like it's about selling CDs than making good music. Let me tell you something, it will always be about good songs. I hope that you, at least, come away feeling that this was pure. More than anything, I hope that you enjoy the Zone. It has been a work of joy and I hope that it's contagious, not just to you the listener but also to the industry. Here It Is! 4 Years in the making. I can now let you in to the Zone. This is my definitive project. Everything about it is new. My previous releases, Soul Alive and Eternal Wave, were sincere efforts, but technically inferior. On the IMCZ project, every song has been painstakingly chosen and scrutinize for its place on this CD. I have never taken this much time in just the selection of songs before. But I'm confident that these 18 jewels will seal the deal. I always wanted to make an album that can be played straight through. I'm also excited about the new technology that I used for this project. This is the first full CD project that I created using Pro Tools. It has truly changed the way I create music. I also had at my disposal an arsenal of contemporary synths from Korg and Yamaha. Software rhythm programs like Stylus. And I can't forget about "Total Rex" a kick butt rhythm software. All I can say is that it definitely makes a difference. It's funny but I always considered myself a traditionalist when it came to recording. Even in the days when MIDI was becoming hot, I stuck to my 8 track and recorded everything a track at a time. This is still cool but for a one-man band it was very time consuming. When I jumped into the Computer music fray, I never turned back. I still believe that while the technology makes things easier, you have to stay in control of the technology. Too much of the music now is tech driven. We are losing touch with the human element. The Zone project is all about bringing the human and tech together in a way that serves the music. It will always be about the sound. "In My Comfort Zone" Written, performed and produced by LaMont Anthony for Ujam/GruvNited Productions. Mixed at Gruvland Studio in Oak Park, IL (Windy City).
