Lakota's story starts with bassist Carlos Ramirez playing in another New York City band. One day he picked up guitarist Kayne Konecny, when Kayne played him his demo, singing lead. Call it fate. Call it destiny. But, the next day it was decided the duo was going to start a new band. Their influences were to include classic melodic punk ala Sugar, the Foo Fighters and Samiam. And they wanted to inject their own style of playing into this tradition.
With this, Lakota was born in the spring of 2003.
After a few frustrating months, Kayne called his old bandmate, Pat Lane, who drove down from Buffalo to jam. Along with drummer Lou Lagno, the combo started working vigorously on material. They chose five of their strongest songs and went into the studio, working with producer Juan Garcia (Taking Back Sunday, Brand New) at the infamous Magic Shop Studios in Manhattan. After the tracks were mastered by Alan Douches (Promise Ring, Alkaline Trio) the boys sent the disc off to the live venues throughout the city and started playing nonstop. Theyíve gained their local reputation not through hype in some trendy magazine but with old fashioned sweat.
In early 2004, they recruited drummer Jimmy Herbst. Not content with just local praise, the hard working combo bought a new van and hit the northeastern live circuit. Some shows were jam packed and some were sparsely attended. But one thing remained consistent... Lakota played every show with the same intensity. No one walked away unsatisfied.
It's from their early demos that the songs of The Acquaintances EP was born. A follow up full length recorded with Jamie Woolford (The Stereo) will be released in the spring of 2005.
