What started out to be a little recording of a couple of songs last summer turned into “Count It Joy”, the first album of 17-year-old singer/songwriter Lainey Wright. For this project she was joined by a variety of talented musicians who live in the hill country outside Austin, Texas. What they all have in common is their faith in Jesus Christ, a common thread that weaves its way through refreshingly honest lyrics…lyrics that sing of hope in darkness, redemption in this life, faith that sometimes loses its way, and joy through the passage. The sound is a little Americana, a little folk, a little coffeehouse…quite a different sound than other music in the genre.
Lainey is currently sharing her music in coffee houses across Texas. She is also back in the studio recording new music, which will eventually lead to a second album! As far as her future in music goes, she says she really doesn’t give it a lot of thought. “I figure if I just keep singing what God gives me…whatever happens happens, and it doesn’t get better than that!”
