notes
Having been described as musically diverse, Kathy Watson (ASCAP) has sung pop, classical, musical theatre, gospel and jazz all her life, she is now writing in most if not all of these genres.
Kathy has studied music for over 20 years and holds Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in operatic performance. This classical training has not made Kathy’s singing stiff or unimaginative, but has given her a diverse background and the sound technical basis to sing any style of music and has allowed her to step into song writing. Kathy’s song writing and interpretive style is heavily influenced by her background in multiple genres of music.
Her self-titled debut CD was released in 1999 with independent publisher, New Pants Publishing, Inc. This CD, featuring adult contemporary/pop music, was well-received and earned Kathy multiple nominations on the Grammy entry list that year. Her second album, “Romancin’ the Blues,” was released in 2001 and is a culmination of material she prepared for auditions and they are songs that she loves to sing. “Romancin’” has been a big hit for young and old alike and reflects Kathy’s love of the intimacy of piano and vocal performance. This album was also nominated in multiple categories for the Grammy entry list.
Kathy has always loved performing in live venues, most recently appearing in intimate settings allowing her to focus on her love of classical music. She has performed as a soloist at the Washington National Cathedral in Washington, D.C. as well as at the MBSTIA music industry showcase, the Cutting Edge music industry showcase and the POPKOMM stage in Cologne, Germany. She has received airplay on the Armed Forces Radio Network, Europe.
“Come to Me” is Kathy’s third album and is a pleasing blend of five original music tracks co-written with jazz songwriter, Joel Holmes (SESAC), and an agreeable selection of standard jazz covers. These originals and Kathy’s choice of covers are a dynamic display of the varied talent of this multi-faceted artist. This album touches the spirit with many jazzy toe-tapping, finger-snapping tunes and songs of romance that will surely conjure up visions of a classic bygone era.
Kathy is now based out of Baltimore, Maryland, though maintains strong ties to her roots in Colorado.
