A Threepenny + VAT opera? No. But somewhere between a smoky piano-bar and a dark baroque church Miss Scylla does her accounting. love, loss, laughs.

notes
Some people say...
"The result is a musical blend of operatic piano playing, poetic meanderings, and a heavy metal attitude. Her soaring vocals and reckless piano pounding coupled with metaphorical and ironic lyrics are one hell of an otherworldly ride. Utilizing every makeshift instrument, including the kitchen sink, she is not your run of the mill piano goddess."
(Victoria McCabe - www.linenoise.co.uk)
"Gabriela relies on a strict sense of melody and fascinating wordplay, underpinned with strange but brilliantly played piano work.
[She] is certainly 'metal' in intent, with a huge host of influences from Iron Maiden to Tori Amos."
(Chris C. - www.metaluk.com)
This is heartcore.

author: pepper mcgowan/ inky midnightI have blown through ****3**** copies of this record since I got the first one. If you don't have one, put it in your budget. It's more important than beer and bread this week.
Love this CD!
author: WhitneyIf you love singing/songwriting/piano-playing women with a quirky edge, then this will not disappoint. Check it out- remniscent of Kate Bush, which, really- is that a bad thing? Hope to hear more from Miss Kulka soon..........
Love the cd - mixture of beauty and darkness
author: CSGabriela Kulka is a fantastic pianist and singer. You can hear the different genres and influences in her songs on this cd. Her technical skill, range of style, and wonderful sense of melody (which has a touch of darkness - think Tori Amos and Chopin) makes for a great listen. I could play this for hours. Song 3 is my favorite: Some Things Are Better. The melody is absolutely addictive. The heavy reverb and delay on track 6 (Tonight I Will Doubt) gives a very eerie feeling, and the effect is gorgeous. Follow that with track 7, Tonight I Will, a continuation of track 6, done in harpsichord and strings. Other favorites are Bodybags and Jellybean. Definitely a unique cd worth checking out.
Sounds Great !

In my TOP 5
author: pepper mcgowanThis record made my top 5 of the year, I highly recommend it. Rare to find something that has substance, good composition and great production/performance all at once. Be careful though, these wonderful songs will stick in your head long after you listen, so you have to listen again! And again! A real gem.
Emotionally driven, heart melting, mind bending, soul rendering, cathartic DNA s
author: Robert Harvey KulkaAs good as it gets!
author: Vince SingletonAn incredibly diverse, musically accomplished CD, with great songs (all penned by Gaby), vocals and piano playing. Gaby doesn't merely pour her heart into the CD: she bleeds! Simply stunning.
I 'm amazed!
author: Korhan DemirkayaThis is one of the most stunning albums I have ever had. I have it since last week and I can't stop listening it. In every listen I catch something different. The compositions, the whole story telling , most importantly the music and the vocal are beautiful. A must for any music lover.
WHO'S MISS SCYLLA? READ BELOW :)
author: EriveltonEXCEPTIONAL! An unique album, Gabriela Kulka shows that she came to stay, on this album she proves she has evolved a lot since King of Rats. Each song in this CD is a small trip that makes you know a little more about who miss Scylla really is. The lyrics make you stop for a while and think if they're about miss Scylla or even yourself (in some way). For short, the lyrics make your braincells work...songs that make you think not just listen to them. The melodies suit perfectly to the lyrics and her great voice. And besides all this, the recording quality is very good. Well, "Between Miss Scylla and a Hard Place" really stands out, it's worthy for the whole set "tied up" in this CD, that is, the singer, the lyrics, the melodies and for the clues that let you know a bit of Miss Scylla (Do you wanna know her? Buy the CD, you won't regret for doing so). Gabriela rocks! Erivelton (a Brazilian fan)
Concept albums (or indeed any albums) don't get much better than this.
author: John William ReynoldsConcept albums (or indeed any albums) don’t get much better than this. Don't be put off by the 'concept' prefix, this CD brings to mind a ‘greatest hits’ collection rather than a lumbering 1970s progressive rock album. The songs lock into each other seamlessly sharing themes and moods and yet ‘Miss Scylla and a Hard Place’ offers more diversity than most albums that have entered the charts in recent years. In a time when there is an endless chain of manufactured ‘pop-idols’, genuine musicians with genuine talent, like Gabriela Kulka, are a breath of fresh air. If only all music could be this good.
Her strong voice and charisma and attitude...
