notes

Heather Kropf brings bittersweet jazz-folk stylings to her songwriting, weaving deceptively complex melodies around the universal subjects of love, life, and loss. Rarely do people who hear walk away unaffected. Her self-produced debut recording, Sky (Reverie Records), combines her knack for sharp, memorable lyrics with her sensitivity to musical mood. Supported by a full band, this album ranges from simple to sophisticated, and is guided by what Pittsburgh Magazine calls "a heavenly voice somewhere between Aimee Mann and Jill Sobule". Fans call Sky "comforting at a cellular level."

"Local folk singer and songwriter Heather Kropf pens beautifully detailed songs, teaming them up with the ares's best acoustic players. She represents a new wave of young singers on the edge of representing the region to a wider audience." - WYEP, 91.3 FM, Year in Review

" With a heavenly voice somewhere between Aimee Mann and Jill Sobule, Heather Kropf's debut CD Sky (Reverie Records) is a welcome change of pace in these days of uptempo-whiny-middle-class-white-boy-tirades. The tempos are mellow but not maudlin and, as a piano player, Kropf is melodic and delicate but powerful....Great stuff." - Pittsburgh Magazine

"Combining mature yet sweetly breezy vocals with elegant piano playing and flowing string arrangements, Heather Kropf's debut CD bridges a mellow jazz vibe and folk roots. " - In Pittsburgh

"Heather's songs are like an overheard conversation. They draw you in; they make you want to hear more." - Brad Yoder, musician & songwriter

  • Beautiful folk with a touch of jazz
    author: Charlie

I love Heather's music! Her voice is soothing and the melodies go directly from ear to heart. "Come Around" has some of the most beautiful lyrics I have ever heard. The instrumentation is organic and just right and even the cover is awesome. What are you waiting for? Buy it!

  • Haunting and incisive. These songs dance in the ear.
    author: Ken Hawkley

Heather's voice is haunting and her songs are incisive. The music dances in the ear while the words speak deep truths. These are the songs of joy, sorrow and breathing, of living and dying and living again. The title song will make you smile with remembrance. and each song will elicit different experiences that the listener may think they had forgotten. Open the treasure of your own soul, buy the CD.

  • A beautiful, natural singer
    author: Rebecca Martin

Heather's voice is truly refreshing. A beautiful and standout element is that she is one of the few natural singers that I've heard in recent years. Her melodies are rich and memorable, and she sings them with such strength and yet has a sense of space and openness that is impressive. Phrasing is not a learned thing - it is a truly magical gift that Heather possesses as well. Definate goodbump factor. A fortunate talent for folks to hear live in Pittsburgh....

  • Really wonderful.
    author: Brina

Heather has one of the prettiest voices you will ever hear. It is so soothing and calming. Wonderful. The whole feel of the album is enchanting; something to rest in when you're tired, something to calm you when you're hyper. I think the best song is Come Around because the lyrics are so poetical; I know I play it endlessly. In short, give this girl a chance: I don't think she'll disappoint.
