When I was a little kid I used to have a huge box filled with lego. I liked to keep things seperate back then. For example, my extensive collection of comics were organized in an orderly fashion. Donald Duck could not in any circumstance be mixed in with my volumes of Spiderman. This way of thinking applied, of course, to my huge box of Lego too. Toys have their dignity too, I thought, and placing a Playmobil-figure next to a Lego-figure would be an insult to both of them. However, needless to say not everyone shared my views on the importance of establishing an apartheid-system among the toys. Almost everyday I would find Playmobil, Micromachines, Barbiedolls and even Playdough in my huge box of Lego. Frustrating yes, but I soon realized that kicking up a stink about this would probably make me unpopular with the other kids in the neighbourhood. So, I endured.
Years later, when I first heard Koppens music it reminded me of the toybox I once had. It gave me a nostalgic feeling of sitting in front of the television Sunday morning, hyped-up on sugar from saturday-nights leftover-candy, watching stale, badly drawn cartoons and playing with lego. The structure of the songs resemble a huge lego-tower that threathens to fall over any minute. On different levels of the tower you'll find playmobil, cowboy-action-figures, and where nothing else would fit in, someone filled the cracks with playdough.
