notes
“Evan dubs his music “sonic folk” and I couldn’t have put two words more harmoniously together than that to describe this wholeheartedly enjoyable album “Chatter of Souls”. –Smother Magazine
Heartfelt, full of life, and above all sincere, Evan Kolvoord's songs and music lure listeners and audiences into a world of railroads and rivers, lost love and lost souls, telephone lines and all night radio stations.
Evan grew up in Austin, Texas where he was revered for his harp playing even from a very young age. For a young harp player in love with music, there is no playground for learning your craft better than Austin. He strapped on his harmonica, picked up his guitar and learned everything he could playing with some of the country's finest folk and blues musicians as he moved from band to band and built his sound. In 2002, he relocated to Halifax, Nova Scotia where he quickly found a new community of like minded musicians and songwriters. Evan has played at some point with just about every notable musician in Halifax including: Al Tuck, Rose Cousins, Christina Martin, The Hurtin’ Unit, and Jon McKiel, and He is also a full time member of "The Fancy Lebanese Country Band" – where he attempts to first subdue his listeners with charm and then wham! bam! knock their socks off with some good ol' fashioned get down mouth harp boogie woogie.
In December 2005, Evan released his highly anticipated second full length CD - Chatter of Souls. Decidedly more somber in tone than his first CD, his new release offers fans a more atmospheric sound and a more haunting songwriting approach. Exploring longing, loss, and his new life in Halifax, the CD contains some of his finest songs and once again demonstrates his musical scope and undeniable ability to reveal the subtleties of the human heart.
Chatter of Souls is thick. A dynamic soundscape revealing new sounds, voices, and stories every listen.
"Evan's got the tone and he's got the ears. He knows when and where to do what - and when it's time to give-'er, Kolvoord does not hold back." - (Adam Fine, Halifax NS)

It keeps playing in my head
author: Lyle EhlersLove Waltzing is my favorite, great lyrics. I play this as back ground music at work....then hum it a home!!!! Idaho and Pretty Lady are great as well.
A moody story you can relate to - and so well told.
author: Darryl WrightEvan always surprises me. His versatility as an artist allows him to colour outside the lines of what you expect when you label him with a genre. Coming from recently listening to his first album, I expected a somewhat more evolved series of similar songs. But honestly, I didn't think it sounded like the same artist. This album is a little moodier than his last but his growth is evidant in every string and every line. More importantly, I was impressed by how I could relate to the lyrics and the story the album seems to tell. It's easy, honest and mature music that flows from track to track offering a note of hope tempered with a hint of cautionary tale. All in all, a fantastic CD.
It takes you on a journey, if you let it
author: Karsten SchmitzThe colours, the moods are so strong. The voice of each instrument is so distinct, not muddled together. And each one says simply what it needs to say, leaving space for the others.

Honest music & real songwriting: Idaho, Pretty Lady, and Bigger Than This are gems. Never Get Over It, Now I Don't Remember How, Chatter of Souls, and Don't Go are melodic, deep & explorative. Love Waltzing is a great country waltz with an oldtime feel and very clever lyrics. Buy this album and allow it time to grow on you; it will. Gold,Evan. Gold.
