notes
Bonnie Koloc's new double CD, "Timeless," is a collection of 34 songs nearly all from live performances over the past thirty years. The wide scope of the material from folk to blues and ballads presents a musical autobiography that will stir the memories of Bonnie's fans and please the ear of every listener.
Here is some of what Ray Nordstrand had to say about Bonnie:
"It was 1968 at the Quiet Knight on Wells St. in Chicago when I first heard Bonnie's magnificent voice. She had just come in on the train from Iowa and the audience was mesmerized. Shortly afterwards she began appearing regularly at the Earl of Old Town where...she became one of the most popular attractions with fans lining up around the block to hear the songs of Chicago's Queen of Folk Music...upon hearing her a few months ago we all realized that her voice is as beautiful and powerful as ever...Bonnie has demonstrated many diverse talents--award-winning Broadway actress, poet, print maker, book illustrator. But all her fans hope she will continue to sing her songs for decades to come and create more CD's like this."

Timeless
author: Jim TetzlaffMy wife and I enjoyed Bonnie's wonderful voice and talent many years ago at The Earl of Old Town and at The Old Town School of Folk Music in Chicago back in the '70s. Since then, we've found some of her recordings and finally found her website last month. How wonderful! This album takes us back to those good old days; just as she comments...with all the glitches and oops as they were heard live at the shows these are from. Great album.
Timeless
author: WILLIAM MARDERWe first heard Bonnie Kolok at the Flick in Miami, Florida in the early 1970s. Always left a great impression on us with her voice and music. Finally discovered her again in 2008 with this CD. We are in to all types of Folk Music now and consider this CD with her voice and music as one of the best. Bill & Estelle Marder
Timeless
author: Cheryl BoerkoelShe always was and always will be the best! Her voice still has the clarity and range she had in the early years. It's such a pleasure to listen to and brings back so many memories.
back in time.....
author: Melissa Conwell, BeckBonnie Koloc's CD Timeless, was a reminiscent walk, back in time....I still love Roll me on the water and Up is a nice place to be...Crazy Mary( my faves) I loved her music when I was a kid, still do, I still know all the words, If only I sounded like her....
It's marvelous to hear Bonnie's voice - as fresh as paint.
author: Katherine H.Bonnie, I've been a fan since I saw you at Amazingrace. You brought back all the fun - especially hearing you goofing with Steve Goodman. The clarity and sheer power of your voice is always astounding and as fresh as paint. I could hear you singing in Outer Mongolia and know it was you. Thanks for sharing this fabulous gift with us.

Thank you, Bonnie, for this wonderful journey back in time. I will never forget the first time I saw you at Charlotte's Web in the mid-70s. I have followed your career ever since. I had old, scratchy LPs of my favorite songs: "Roll Me On the Water," "How I'd Move You," "You're Gonna Love Yourself In the Morning" etc...and it is great to finally have them on CD - especially since they are live versions. Wistful, glorious nostalgia of a memorable era.
Bonnie has grown in her art and kept her heart true
author: Anne DeardorffMy husband and I loved the cd--for its nostalgic value and for the beauty of Bonnie's voice and delivery. She has truly grown in her art and kept her heart true. We will be at her concert this weekend celebrating our 40th anniversary!

My husband saw Bonnie over 30 years ago in Chicago and bought a cassette of her music. We played that music until the tape broke. I am so happy I was able to find a new CD to give him for his birthday. Bonnie's voice is just as beautiful and lyrical as ever. Great to hear classic folk and blues sung in such a mezmerizing way.
fun, enjoyable, great!
author: john s.it was as if i was back at charlotte's web in rockford,il listening to bonnie koloc live. it sounded great!
Time trippin to The Earle Earlt 70s
author: C WolthusenAh to hear that beautiful voice again. Carried me back to the early 70s and The Earl and the Lincoln ave. Folk scene.
Great renewal of earlier days! Bonnie Koloc is a role model!
author: Carol PadgettThe CD brings back memories of earlier days in folk and blues. The fidelity is excellent and the choices of songs awesome. The songs bring back Joan Baez and all the 60's and 70's greats.
The GREATEST Female Voice
author: GregThose few songs trials I was able to hear are great. Bonnie's voice haven't changed a bit since '72. I got two LP, After All This Time and Hold On To Me. My father bought them in Chicago in '73. I wish I could manage to buy any later album here in Poland. This summer it may come true - I'm going to USA and for sure will try get tickets for Bonnie's concert!
brought back good memories
author: Vicki SteiningerMy husband & I lived in the Chicago area in the 1970s. We saw Bonnie perform several times. Her voice is mesmerizing and wonerfully unique. Good to here her again.
If you like Bonnie, you have got to have this. Superb!!!!
author: Mitchell SmithThese songs mark about 25 years of recording for Bonnie Koloc. Her voice is like velvet and wraps around many familiar tunes along with some fun with Steve Goodman. This really takes you back to a time when it was about the music and not image.
- author: A listener from Texas-
What a wonderful collection of music performed by an artist with an incredible voice.
At long last--we can listen to Bonnie Koloc's golden voice on CD!
author: M BellattiBravo! Bravo! Bravo! In the 70's,I used to listen to Bonnie Koloc sing many of these pieces in Newport, Rhode Island, and have been wishing my Bonnie Koloc albums were available on CD. Her voice is so pure and her wit so apparent that you feel as though you are at a concert rather than listening to a CD. This CD set is a treasure which all will enjoy.
NO ONE SOUNDS LIKE BONNIE KOLOC.....GREAT!!
author: Joan Tedeyeroll me on the water...sailing song... I used to play them and sing them with the guitar in my dorm...1974 i first saw Bonnie in Chicago as a college student...her voice pierced through the smoke filled room...the place always packed...those were the days...and these songs are as enjoyable today as they were then. I left Chicago in the late 70's and before I left I bought 2 back up copies of all her albums I already had because I always wanted to be able to hear her wherever I was...I still have them and they are well worn...now i can get cds of Bonnie!! Thanks! I Miss Angel from Montgomery..if wishes were lightening and thunder desire...this old house would have burnt down a long time ago....I love it! Thank you Bonnie Koloc!
Great cd. Songs range from serious to just plain fun.Beautiful voice.
author: MarilynThoroughly enjoyed this cd. Great songs sung superbly. I could not get some of the songs out of my head. I found myself humming or singing a lot of the songs because the tunes and words kept replaying in my head. Well worth the money.I saw Bonnie many times in Chicago and her music brought back many memories.
Bonnie Kolac's new CD
author: Pat CraddockBonnie-where have you been? It's been so long since we heard your beautiful voice and then this wonderful CD comes out!! Please, never stop singing and recording. It was beautiful!
I couldn't have asked for more
author: Vince C.This is the dream 2-CD set I'd have asked for if it didn't exist and I wanted Bonnie Koloc on CD. The live performances take me back to 1974, when I first saw her not in Chicago but in Miami's Gusman Theater. The CDs' quality is fine for me; it just makes me feel I'm seeing her live all the more (which I only have twice). Bravo!!
A MUST HAVE FOR BONNIE KOLOC FANS
author: Dave PlominI have been a FAN of Bonnie's since the Earl of Old Town days when we were ALL a LOT younger, but her voice, her nuances, her style and GRACE have NEVER gotten old. I took it for granted in my callow youth, that I, and my friends would allways stay young, allways be around and Bonnie would be at the mike at Earl's on Wells St in Chicago. Alas, some who basked in her light with me are no longer with us, as with her fellow performers from that era, but Bonnie is STILL with us, and can STILL do her magic as so few performers can these days. I look forward to the next time she performs in my neck of the woods!
GREAT! EVERYONE SHOULD HAVE THIS CD IN THEIR COLLECTION
author: WFHTHE ONLY PROBLEM WITH YOUR WESITE AND BONNIE KOLAC IS THAT WE COULD FIND ONLY HER CHILDREN'S CD (WHICH WE BOUGHT FOR GRANDSONS) AND THIS ONE. WE'VE SEEN BONNIE LIVE AND HAVE A TAPE OF HERS. THIS IS THE FIRST CD, AND IT'S WONDERFUL! TELL HER WE'D LIKE TO HEAR HER ON STEVE KING AND JOHNNIE PUTMAN'S OVERNIGHT SHOW ON WGN .... AND WE'D LIKE MORE OF BONNIE ON CD BABY. WHAT A NICE LADY AND WHAT A GREAT VOICE!
Thank you, Bonnie! Been waiting for this and appreciative.
author: MurryTimeless allows us to go home again after all these years
author: Bob HolmesHeavy cigarette smoke hanging in the air, the sounds of clinking glasses and beer bottles, an appreciative crowd of real music lovers at the Earl of Old Town, fighting Machine politics in Chicago, making social change happen, planning the revolution, Flower power - lots of good memories from the 60s and early 70s are evoked when listening after all these years to Bonnie's once, and still, beautiful voice again. This CD is "right on!"
Great, of course!
author: K ZurcherAs a Bonnie fan from the beginning (Chicago, Earl's), I was thrilled to find this CD. My expectations were exceptionally high and they were exceeded. Bonnie is great. Timeless is great.
what a gift
author: liz lewisTo listen to this CD and to hear Bonnie's beautiful voice was a treat. It brought back great memories of good times and friends I have known. I've kept the LP's I have and listen to them time to time, but this CD takes me right back there. What a gift.
Great good fortune to find Bonnie again.
author: Carla KanthakI had the great pleasure to see Bonnie at the Earl of Old Town in the early 1970's. It is an evening I have always remembered. I was so happy to find her website and the CD. While listening to the songs many memories danced in my mind of those sweet Chicago days. Thank you so much Bonnie for sharing your wonderful talent with all of us. You are a treasure.
Voice like crystal; memories like a window
author: The Rev Robert J. StewartTo hear this crystal sharp voice penetrate the years not only brought back appreciation for the artist, but awakened memories of the Earl of Old Town, Quiet Knight, Amazing Grace, etc. that were like looking through a window on exciting, romantic Chicago days.
Wonderful collection of Bonnie's performances. Takes me back to my Chicago root
author: Paul IgasakiAs a longtime fan of Bonnie Koloc, who lost track of her and didn't expect to hear her performances again, this was a great find. As with any collection, some of my favorites were missed - but there was great stuff I've never heard. And while the quality of some of the cuts was poor, the tradeoff was getting nostalgic performances with the likes of Steve Goodman. Her beautiful, clear and powerful voice providing a sweet mixture of blues and folk takes me back to my days as a college student hearing her music for the first time at Amazingrace- and every time I've played her LPs since then. Thanks, Bonnie.
Absolutely wonderful CD, brings us back to a great time.
author: Bob VermetteI am biased. My wife is the sister of Elliott Delman, who is the guitarist on over half of the tracks. Regardless, Bonnie was a legend in Chicago, and this CD takes us back to a time when you could go to a club, sit down, have a drink, and totally become absorbed in the music. There are few places or performers, that can replicate the intimacy of Bonnie's music. You felt as though she was singing to you alone. This album take you there. It is for old and new fans. A must have in any collection.
Still laughing and singing along, a week later
author: Sue AndresenThis CD is wonderful in its own right, for the incredible quality of Bonnie's voice, however it is also great in that it brings back memories of attending her concerts in the Chicago area in the early 70's. It offers an insider view into the spirit and friendships that pervaded the Chicago folk scene during that time. Quality of the cuts varies, but all are at least "good enough", most are just fine.
A wonderful compilation of all Bonnie's creative works.
author: Jo Ann FrogueMy husband has been a fan of Bonnie Koloc from since the 70's when he lived in Berwyn, Il. Timeless was my gift to him for our 22nd wedding anniversary. He couldn't stop raving about both CDs. He absolutely loved every song. And I kept hearing him humming various cuts for days and days!
As always, the music on this CD lulls me with Bonnie's voice and passion
author: Mary StoeffhaasNot a song on the 2 CDs failed to move me. Bonnie's interpretation and voice, the beauty of her originals, the special individuality she gives to her cover songs--each song speaks to me. One of a kind always, and this collection is one of her best.

What a voice? Bonnie Koloc has unlimited range, from low and throaty blues to smooth country and folk. You haven't lived until you've heard Bonnie's version of "Back in the Saddle Again." The title of the CD, "Timeless," says it all.
What the world need now is more from Bonnie Koloc.
author: James WaldmannMs. Koloc possesses one of the world's most remarkable singing voices, and it is a crime that her work is so little known by the general public. I can't recommend this album enough. Everyone should own it, then everyone would know what real singing is all about. Now, if we could only get those albums she made for Ovation transferred to CD!
phenomenal inspite of some mis-matches
author: Judith KovachIn my judgement Bonnie Kolock has always included songs that just aren't wonderful for her, but pulls them off only because here voice is so extraordinarily beautiful. Here too it recurs and although you enjoy it, the time could have been better spent. What a wonderful review of some of the oldies, and in their second incarnations they take on additional and more poignant meanings. Crazy Mary used to be a bit mean spirited; now she'll make you bawl. If you like Bonnie Kolock, it's a great treat.
Great, Essential Bonnie
author: Ed GoodsteinI agree wholeheartedly with Ken Kostryra. This 2CD set is great stuff. True, some of the sound isn't completely perfect, but it doesn't matter. Her amazing voice, kind of a cross between Kate Wolf & Joan Baez, but also with blues & swing elements, absolutely shines. Some of these tracks have never been heard, or are on long out of print work from early '70's. Her recent VISUAL VOICE album from '01 captures a more mature, slightly more jazz side of her & is also great, but this set shows her multifaceted 'folk' side very well, & the spare but effective accompaniment is great too.
truly a "timeless" terrific effort
