A long standing member of the singer-songwriter scene in Philadelphia, Lizanne Knott has been captivating audiences throughout the Northeast and garnering attention from radio listeners in places as far away as Australia and the UK. Well known locally for her understated music, floating vocals and lyrical juxtapositions, her apparent depth and transcending warmth make for an inviting mix of music which moves easily through dark poetic ballads - to soulfull jazz - to folk driven rock.
Lizanne has performed at some of the most prestigious listening venues in the Northeast including: The Kimmel Center, Club Passim, The Bitter End, The Tin Angel, World Cafe Live, Steel City CH, ASCAP Showcases, Sundown Concert Series, Philadelphia Folk Festival and more.
She has been featured on the acclaimed Bob Harris Show on London's BBC2 as well as AAA college radio and her music has been used in independant films and by national non-profit organizations.
Together with husband - GRAMMY Award winning producer/engineer, Glenn Barratt - who's credits include work with Sting, Elton John, Janis Ian, Jill Scott, Susan Werner, Phil Roy and a host of their friends (who happen to be some of the most renowned session players around) she merges her delicately soulful sound with some of todays most innovative music.

author: RubinSomeone told me about this cd at a Patti Griffin show so I looked it up and bought one and am just blown away by the songs and the production. As a singer-songwriter, Lizanne is in a class all her own, part Patti, part Norah Jones and a whole lot of originality. One awesome CD.
Just really wonderful music
author: KeichaI think I am going about this backwards as I found the HEAL Africa CD first (HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT!!) and am now looking for any records this artist appears on. Found that both Antje Duvekot and Phil Roy have guested her onto their recordings. I feel that I have come upon a treasure trove of music. Her vocals are the warmest - in your ear - peeking into dark poetic corners. I can't get enough. A wonderful record.

author: peacemani like this c.d. because on most songs she reminds me of one of my favorite singers, but a couple of times she gets a little too jazzy for me. easier is just a wonderful song.

author: AlexFirst heard this CD on WUMB, Boston, then heard it again and again..and even more. I never tire of the songs, I don't understand why every station accross the globe isn't spinning it. It's sounds a hell of alot better than most of what hear on some of those other stations.

Great Artist - Great CD!
author: a Philadelphianwell, I see that BBCr's have taken over the reviews on this CD, not at all suprising. I have both of Lizanne's CDs and am fortunate enough to live in Philadelphia where she performs often. Her live shows are as captivating as her recordings, even her solo performances. I too will be waiting to see where she ends up, absolutely one of the best singer-songwriters to come out of Philly.

author: Nige BrownI only caught the last 40 seconds of one of Lizannes tracks on the Bob Harris show on BBC Radio 2. That 40 seconds was enough to hunt Lizanne down and buy everything available. This artist is something else, you want to totally chill out put her on. I would say to describe her vocally would be to say Lizanne is a cross between Gretchen Peters and Suzanne Vega. Vocally and lyrically awesome.

author: Another Bob Harris devoteeAfter reading the reviews here I noticed one big common thread - Bob Harris. I can't count the times on one hand that I've been so captivated by one of his picks. This record is really, really great. I notice the former CD is going into re-issue, I imagine that too will be on my turntable (well, CD player anyway) As a final note, I found out just today that a friend of mine who lives in the states has seen this artist at the World Cafe in Philadelphia. He says that she is one of the most "real" performers he has seen in live concert. Thank God for Bob Harris, it takes things like this to make me appreciate where I live. Ryan from London

I can't help but wonder why I haven't heard of the artist before but am happy and thankful for the Bob Harris show for bringing yet another "not from the mainstream" artist to the forefront. An outstanding collection of songs!

Bob Harris had given a brief review on air but I had to hear for myself - outstanding was the word he used, I say breath-takingly-beautiful. Highly Recommended, this artist is going places. By the way the UK seems to be reacting, I'd guess a world tour is not far off. Phillip
