notes

So. You're 28 years old, making nearly 6 figures, and on the fast track to management in your high-powered computer consulting firm. What do you do next? If you're Tim Knauff, you quit your job, enter seminary, and release your first CD, "Anything but Ordinary."

While Tim holds a degree in music performance, his career direction led him into computers. After three years in the industry, he realized that something was wrong. He entered seminary, and is currently a pastor of three churches in rural Wisconsin.

Tim has been playing piano since he was 7 years old, and has discovered a love for improvising. "I make music because it expresses who I am," he says. "When I sit at the keyboard it becomes an extension of me, and it becomes my voice. The black and whites of the keys disappear, and what's left is an exploration of myself. It becomes almost like therapy." This love for playing, and especially improvising, led to a full-length, 100% improvised CD as a chance to share his joy with a wider audience.

On his CD, in addition to his solo piano work, Tim is also joined by two friends: Anna Bradshaw on violin, and Hideyuki Tanaka on guitar. These tracks, too, were invented on the spot. "These duets are really a record of an encounter. They are two souls meeting through music, each playing and dancing, engaging, and conversing. They are the magic of a moment, put on tape."

Tim's CD is available through his Web site, http://www.timothyknauff.com, or through CDBaby.com. For more information, booking, and merchandise, Tim can be reached at tk_jr@minister.com.

  • Extraordinary Ride
    author: Katrina

Light some candles, chill the wine, and relax into yourself. This is a ride straight to the quiet places of the heart...a ride from the ordinary of everyday life to the extraordinary that exists in all of us. With Tim's music as the guide, be prepared to discover exhilirating joy, quiet serenity, placid meditation, abounding peace. Well worth the ride, over and over again!

  • Daydreams, journeys, and absolutely wonderful.
    author: Jen Herrmann

This mix of music is wonderful...it will lead you into daydreams and take you on journeys. I think it is possible to just get swept away! There are no lyrics...but the instruments just sing and dance. I'd really reccomend it to anyone.
