notes
KLT is a study in the art of musical hybrid. Led by Kansas City recording artist, Kenny Carter, the band brings to life a style that has no walls. And instead of choosing one path at the crossroads of their musical influences, they've done what comes most natural to them: they have merged them all into one, giant superhighway. There is where we find KLT's most recent offering, KLT Presents...Butch!
KLT Presents...Butch! is the first CD in a trilogy of albums produced as a soundtrack for a superhero spawned in the mind of Kenny Carter. This superhero is named Butch. He is an orphaned stick figure from a planet called Grunt, which is the center of a galaxy called the Interplanetary Coalition of Grunt. Then, one day, Butch is rescued from the bowels of the streets and is transformed into a big, black mass of muscle with giant hands that can crush just about anything on the planet. Over time, he becomes the patron saint of the Grunt Galaxy, because he stumbles upon saving the world all of the time.
The songs on the cd are based on the progression of the Butch story. All the while, they paint parallel pictures to real life and a boy's own search for his potential, his faith, and real love. The music is a melting pot of rock, pop, and funk driven by strong hip-hop grooves, deep bass, and massive hooks. The songs showcase a twisted sense of song structure, nearly choral vocal arrangements, and a passion for interweaving guitar tapestries. On any given song the listener might feel that he or she is hearing a completely new style of music and yet sense aural echoes of Prince, Bjork, Led Zepplin, and D'Angelo all at the same time. Add to this the poetry and tie-ins to the unfolding Butch tale and you have the makings of a unique musical experience.

THERE'S A RIOT GOIN ON!
author: Romeo Blue (also on CD Baby.com)This album sounds as if there was a party goin on in the studio. With each listen, I enjoy it more. For me, its reminiscent of Parliament/Funkadelic, David Bowie, Jimi Hendrix, Zeppelin, and Prince. Throw in some folk, hip-hop, techno and blues while you're at it! A concept album without being contrived. Excellent musicianship, great vocals, and catchy at the same time. I look forward to catching a show! If you don't have this album, what are you waiting for?
Restores my faith in concept albums
author: Sweaty BHeard about this CD on Okayplayer.com and bought it songs unheard. I was not disappointed. Following the same lines as Outkast, but takes it to another space. Butch rules.
Butch stomps through my hood... and I like it! |-D
author: AtomSound.NetKenny Carter does it again! Bringin da funk faithfully! Butch is full of funk (to tha P), soul, blues and rap of the new Rock n Roll! Butch is on par with the best of Prince or Speech or even (this is pushin' it...) the great Kings X! Kenny, great work! Can't wait for the sequel!
Great project! Very creative.
author: DreamScapers InternationalThis is one of the most CREATIVE albums I have heard in a long time. I just noticed it on CDBaby, but it's been in my CDPlayer for a couple of weeks.
