Kleveland
'melting hearts & faces everywhere'
Kleveland’s self-titled debut soars melodically with rich rock 'n' roll that cherishes guitar noise as much as a meaty rhythm section. A pounding, fierce brand of rock that is as much Cheap Trick-influenced as it is Joan Jett, AC/DC, and early 90s guitar-rock. It rings true to the old and the new, a genuinely fearless rock record.

"Stephanie Smith led Kleveland into a crashing surge of Blondie-esque mini anthems. Smith's sandpaper-on-velvet vocal surges have never come across better or stronger, particularly on the fiery and fun new cut "Johnny Is a Klepto." Strumming in a black tank top, she's a ringer for Joan Jett, but Smith has a sound of her own, making her both archetype and idol on a night pumped full of necessary noise.
--The Oregonian
“Kleveland’s kickass Everybody Wants to EP sounds like the Donna’s- if the Donnas were twice as catchy…. A must-see show for fans of rowdy punk and power pop.”
--The Portland Mercury
“She’s got a big mouth, pretty and rude, just like her songs.”
--Falling James, L.A. Weekly
“Kleveland succeeds where so many have fallen short, crafting infectious guitar pop barbed with punk energy” --Willamette Week
“This hard-rocking, hard-knocking abrasive power trio blasts out the noise with plenty of melody and sweet hooks”
--Music Millennium
“Referencing everyone from Iggy Pop to Blondie to the Kinks, Kleveland stunned onlookers with walls of sounds and pounds of rockstar panache.
--Oregonian
“Proceedings begin with P-town’s own Kleveland, a trio of kick-ass local heroes lead by guitarist/singer Stephanie Smith, the sort of girl Iggy Pop wishes he was—spastic, unpredictable, completely given over to the noise.” --The Portland Mercury

author: Andreas V.somewhere between the Ramones and Patti Smith, but the band has a sound of their own dominated by Stephanie Smith and her Les Paul Jr. guitar... Waiting or live shows here in Germany...

skull crushing with lots of heart
author: Miss LeighAs a big fan of Stephanie K and the last Kleveland album I've been waiting for this one for 2 years, almost like I was the one at the Lake House in 2004 with Keanu and Kleveland was rocking it in the future having a gay old time. Well, indeed this album is a saliva laced french kiss of a reunion at the mailbox and believe you me the flag is up and it says "FUCK YEAH!" Every song on this album is terrific. Portland is a bubble of awesome bands and Kleveland is the pin-prick of 2007.

Hard rocking band with a hard rocking front woman.
author: Blues BunnyHard rocking bands with hard rocking front women are always a treat when it works well, and with Kleveland there can be no doubt that it does. Their ‘take no prisoners’ approach is apparent from the outset with “Jonny Is A Klepto”, a song that simply crackles with raw energy. Stephanie’s singing at times come across as Patti Smith with even more attitude – the oxymoronically titled “King of the Drama Queens” with its anger-laced, cutting yet witty lyrics being a case in point. If there is any justice this band will have a much deserved higher profile in the not to distant future.
Kleveland will be big time any second now....
author: KDProfessional quality, well done music, and they have that "it" factor.....

The debut full-length from Kleveland (yes, spelled with a K), is a nice return to rock, slapping the imitators and modern slew of $300.00 hair cut rock acts back to the suburbs where they belong. Here we have a bare bones, but still juicy, melodic attack of buzzing guitar, steady bass, and crashing drums that prove pivotal in backing up front woman Stephanie Smith’s growl. A woman that knows her way around both a pop song and a rocker, her and her band blend the two into a fierce, pull-no-punches feast that will give you plenty of venom to chew on while you’re trying to sing along to her plaintive lyrics riddled with hope, regret, and a new beginning. If you can imagine The Pretenders’ Chrissie Hynde and Joan Jett rolled into one, and then put into the Northwest’s hipster indie-rock scene as they rebel with real rock music, than you can imagine Kleveland.
