Album Notes

26 Obscure, Naughty and Lovely Songs from the 1910s, 20's and 30's! Ukulele wunderkind and chanteuse Janet Klein has completed an independent release of her debut CD entitled Come Into My Parlor. Klein's CD features Entertaining Songs, Emotive Ballads, and Hot Chansonettes. Her historical approach to naughty material from the 20's and 30's blends well with her knowing yet kittenish demeanor. Inspired by vitaphone musical short films from the 20's, poetry and performance art, Klein is a gifted and enchanting entertainer, with a sweet sexiness that has been described as Betty Boop meets Betty Page. With loads of elegance, charm and poise, Klein wraps us around her little finger and leaves us wolf-whistling for more. Refreshing, unique and funny, Klein sings forgotten gems from the teens, 20's and 30's, such as Banana In Your Fruit Basket, If I Can't Sell It I'll Keep Sitting On It and Nasty Man, plus many more made obscure by the likes of Marlene Dietrich, Lil Armstrong (wife of Louis) and Ruth Etting, just to name a few. Impossible to listen to without smiling.

Janet Klein just proves that you don't have to use naughty words to be naughty - and that ukulele is more than just a novelty instrument.

And we thought our Grandparents were so Innocent!
author: Graceann Maciolek
What a marvelous entry in Janet Klein's collection of musical offerings - anyone hearing Banana in Your Fruit Basket or Need a Little Sugar in my Bowl would know that the line our grandparents fed us about the old days being an innocent time was a big old lie. The joy that Janet brings to her music is infectious, and I listen to all of her CDs, including this one, over and over.

I bought this CD and a ukulele for my sweetheart. We are thrilled with it. The songs are fun, beautiful and sensitively done and very inspiring for a future ukulele songstress.

I don't write reviews often, but I love this CD! Janet's voice and uke are indescribably delicious! Her other CDs are great, but this one is my favorite. My wife is jealous because I'm madly in love with Janet Klein!
