notes
Alternately emotive, sultry and swinging vocals on jazz standards with great arrangements. Makes the old sound fresh and new!
There was a time when vocalists infused every carefully chosen lyric with meaning, every precious syllable with emotion, and every note with golden tone. It was the era of the true ‘chanteuse’.
That era is alive and well, living in the person of Kitt Lough, an inspiring new voice on the jazz scene. Melding sultry, velvety vocals with a beguiling appearance, Kitt creates a romantic experience that transports the listener to an age when glamour, rhythm and romance ruled the day. By turns playful & coquettish or plaintive & mournful, she sparkles in the spotlight with her visual and vocal artistry wherever she sings. She imbues every lyric with an emotional range that makes evident the wealth of her life’s experience.
Her debut CD “Orange Colored View” is enjoying rave reviews and generous airplay on jazz stations acrss the southeast. Stunningly produced and arranged by Dan Serafini, it showcases her vocal versatility and places her squarely among today’s best jazz vocalists.
Stay tuned for her next release currently being recorded in New Orleans, Louisina, USA
See what they’re saying so far about her live performances…
"when kitt sings it is special. One might even say uncanny. Besides singing in tune, with good rhythm and phrasing, it is as if she has complete understanding and empathy for the lyrics and, when she delivers the song,
the listener perceives this. What can I say? In my humble opinion, she is a phenomenon." Al Bernard, bassist for Nancy Wilson, Mel Torme, Bobby Darin & others
“...A delightful torch singer, able to navigate the fine line between sentimentality, allure and innocence, while also conveying a song’s multiple meanings... [with] an ideal blend of invitation, declaration and tension.”
Ron Wynn
The Nashville Scene
"...in Music City's club culture, the name Kitt Lough has risen to the top...a favorite among the set at F.Scott’s...”
Drew Walen
Nashville’s City Paper
“...Lough spices her vocals with a sultry slyness...cheeky playfulness... adventurous yet accessible... takes familiar standards and makes them sound fresh and immediate... Nashville’s jazz scene is suddenly overflowing with fine female vocalists, and Lough belongs at the forefront.”

Jazz Standards done in her own great style
author: Catherine HartmanKitt Lough sings some of the songs many of us know by heart, but in a way that is her own unique style -- sexy, sultry, playful and funny, they cover a range. Her rendition of Boulevard of Broken Dreams is the best version I've ever heard. She shows a playful sid ein Orange Colored Sky and in Honeysuckle Rose. This one gets a lot of play, I love it.
Sultry, sexy and fun. Loved the cd and CD Baby's customer service!

author: Mary M.I have to say this is one of the best jazz vocal CDs I've heard in ages. A fresh new voice on the scene, worthy of attention, delightful to hear over and over. And the arrangements are original and exciting. I'm confounded by the single lukewarm review by Ms. Keys, who felt compelled to post twice. I can only conclude a case of sour grapes, green with envy. Yawn? Hardly!
worth the search
author: Markus Zangerle (Germany)Ever since I saw her performance on the Pensacola Jazz-Fest in 2004 I was looking around to get this CD. Now, 2006, I finally found it on CD Baby. And I have to say that her voice sounds even better than I had remembered it. I just love to compare her versions of those standard songs to those of Ms. Krall - different interpretations, shure, but each one incredibly cool, soothing and sexy - my kind of Jazz.... greetings from Germany!
Love Kitt's voice - smooth, sultry and diverse.
author: Gail N. LandryGreat classic songs and wonderful interpretations of them. Love the jazz influence of the instruments. I'm ordering 3 as gifts for friends that I know will appreciate it.
Wonmderful Voice, Great Songs
author: Joe GeogheganI never heard of Kitt Lough until I came across her browsing jazz vocalists at CD Baby. I bought 8-10 CD's and this one is at the top of the list for repeat plays. It has a prominent position on my iPod.
Edit of "This is a CD of great jazz standards"
author: Felicity KeysI neglected to give the rating in my (just posted) review. Please give it 3 stars for me. Thanks. I apologize for the error. Felicity Keys
This is a CD of great jazz standards . . .
author: Felicity KeysBut, there isn't anything about the performance of them that sets Kitt Lough apart from anybody else. Her voice is pleasant enough, but pleasant is for hotel singers. The CD is nice, but regrettably forgettable. Yawn.
Warm-Fuzzy-Cozy-Sexy Music!
author: Rick HasleyThe first time I heard Kitt Lough's voice on the radio, I had to pull my car over and stop (in rush hour traffic no less!)to catch my breath. The CD is non-stop de-lovely, de-lightful and de-licious, better buy 2 because you'll wear the first one out!
The Best

I have heard thousands of versions of some of these tunes - Ms Lough has the ability to make them sound brand new and soulful and engaging and fun and cool - this CD should be on the jazz vocal "desert island list"
Perfect 10
author: Darren LongThis is a very tasty CD. Excellent choice of Standards sung perfectly by Kitt, with great arrangements and piano by Dan Sarafini. This cd would be the perfect introduction to great vocal jazz for someone new to this genre. I highly recommend it!!

This CD SWINGS
author: Baz ChaseFrom the first chords of Honeysuckle Rose I knew I was in for quite a ride and I was not disappointed. This girl has everything covered -looks, voice projection and SWINGS. It has not been out of my CD player since it arrived. One slight beef which otherwise I would have awarded it 5 stars is the very short playing time(41 minutes) I look forward to her next recording hopefully in the not to distant future
great cd
author: mac carsonThis is a great CD. A great selection of songs, great arrangments, and of course Kitt is fantastic. A excellent contribution to the great American song book. She ain't hard on the eyes either.

With the plethora of female jazz vocal albums on the market today, it can be easy for an artist to get muffled in the shuffle. Kitt has one important advantage- she's got that voice that can carry an entire album, a delivery that cuts through all the cummulative build-up of other similar artists- but not with showiness, not with a loud "ta-da!" This woman subtlely but sensuously carries these songs in her blood and when she opens her mouth, there's no separation between her life story and the song, between her breath and the melody, her personality and the emotion. With the versatility to range in style from Harry Connick Jr. to Julie London, this woman's rise on the national jazz charts won't surprise me in the least. Enjoy your favorite standards with unprecedented, crisp artistry.
Great CD! Really enjoying it.

This cd is one of the best jazz cd's I've heard in a long time. I enjoy listening to the Kitt's Spirit come through on the song Orange Colored Sky- She is sure to head for the Newport Jazz Greats! Best of Luck and Continued Success!
