Kimberly Brown - Singer/Songwriter
Doesn't ring a bell? Why should it? She's relatively new, but ready to be here. Originally a trumpet player in her youth, music has played a prominent role in her life. It has always reached her like nothing else; providing inspiration, motivation or release...whatever she needed. Then came the day she found her voice, the moment she could feel the audience sharing her passion. There was no turning back.
Kimberly's vocal performance history spans the past 13 years in various forms, but it took awhile for her to find the perfect relationship with her music. Singing with a cover band was a blast, but something was missing. It was like making love with your clothes on - fun and gratifying, but without intimacy. Later, Kimberly wrote and performed music with a theater company. Pretending to be someone else was easy, but not honest. Finally, she realized that she had some things to say. Knowing that nothing worth having comes without pain, Kimberly opened up all those old wounds and poured herself into her music.
The past few years were spent training herself on the guitar and testing the waters of the Atlanta open mic scene. In addition, Kimberly has recently completed her self-produced, debut recording, Because I Couldn't Sleep... The vocals range from lilting to gritty with profound emotional contrast. Her lyrics are consciously reflective, occasionally brooding and often cathartic.
If you feel the need to label Kimberly's style, let's say it falls somewhere between folk and pop. She prefers to let her audience draw their own conclusions. Simply put, Kimberly's music is a doorway. If you want to know who she is, come on in and let her show you around. Sit down, relax and make yourself at home. There's bound to be someone there you recognize...
