notes

UNFINISHED BUSINESS is a collection of 12 all-new recordings from Brian Kilcourse, as a follow-up to his 2003 release MEGATON MELODIES (also available on CDBABY). Recorded in Walnut Creek, CA from January 2003 through June 2004, each song features Brian on vocals and guitars, bass, and keys. Pedal Steel Guitarist Bob Littleton joins Brian on one track (Right On Time). The tracks were mastered by Mark Stein at Shoreline Digital Mastering, Mill Valley, CA.

The criterion for each song's inclusion is that the song had to have been left in an "unfinished" state right up until the recording date- either an unfinished lyric, or a guitar line without words, or (in one case) an old song that was never quite as envisioned, or simply a song that for one reason or another was never recorded.

Brian has been playing music in the San Francisco Bay Area for over 30 years. He and his band Slim Chance & The Guilty Saints are currently gigging in the East Bay Area, and are featuring many of Brian's original tunes.

  • You have no idea!!
    author: Megaton

It is amazing to me to hear this music on a CD. These are truly unfinished songs that had been sung to me as a little girl. Each song has a special meaning to me and my family, and I love that they are being shared for all to hear. Every word and sound is something that took hard work and heart to create an enchanting melody. I can't wait to hear the next CD! Spread the word, this is one to have.

  • I Love This CD
    author: Greg Thompson

I love this CD. It's a real undiscovered gem. I love the variety, and found it interesting that Brian's Unfinished Business songs found their way into several of my iPod playlists. For example, "Right on Time" is in the Country Rock section with Poco and New Riders. "Fade to Green" may be my favorite and has landed in my Chill Out playlist. While "Fade" is my favorite, the haunting "Singing Wood" is moving up the list, too, along with "McClure's." Finally, "Unfinished Business" is on my favorite singer/songwriter/story song playlist because of the story it tells. This CD should be an inspiration to all of us who have some unfinished business, whether it is a song that needs writing, a story that needs telling, a picture that needs painting, a friend who needs calling, and some friends and family who need hugging. Thanks to Brian Kilcourse for sharing his unfinished business with us.

  • Unfinished Business is a must have for everbodys music collection!

Brian Kilcourse has done it again. He has created a very enjoyable collection of 12 great, catchy songs and not a bad one in the bunch. From the opening track to the last; Unfinished Business delivers the goods with plenty of infectious melodies, rhythms, guitar hooks, and good lyrics and a few surprises that will take the listner through many moods and emotions. McClures is a song that goes back to Brian's Mistress days and is a great remake of that classic song from the Greg Douglass & Mistress CD Free Flyte. Fade To Green reminds me of Peter Green and early Fleetwood Mac, Hey Lou is very catchy, No Disgrace kicks ass and is a great rock song as is Bad Habit. Even the ballads kind of rock and are very moving. I could go on and describe each of the songs but why bother, just listen for yourself. It's worth the price of admission just for the title track alone which is a fantastic song. From straight out rock to blues and even country and other flavors in between, Brian Kilcourse gives his fans exactly what they want...a solid CD of good guitar playing and quality music that gets better and better upon each listening. Buy this CD! You will be glad that you did.

Tired of the same techno-laced pop and formula rock and country the record companies bombard us with these days? Unfinished Business, Brian Kilcourse's, latest musical endeavor is a welcome addition to the true music collector's library. Don't look past this one. Strong start. Solid middle. Powerful finish. What else could you could you ask for?

  • Good Rock, Some Country, Some Jazz
    author: Cookie O

The CD starts out with good ole 70's ROCK n ROLL (No Disgrace)!! Then a bit of a ballad (Sleeping with the Light On), some Country (Darling Why) and some Smooth Jazz (Fade to Green). A blend of many styles. ENJOYED!!

  • Straightforward, Guitar Driven Rock
    author: steve rowen

Unfinised Business finds guitarist/songwriter/producer Brian Kilcourse pushing through the current doldrums of pop music with a refreshing sound of earnest, straight-to-the-point rock n roll. With the longest track weighing in at 4:30, Kilcourse focuses on treating the listener to sweeping, hook-based melodies from the get-go, beginning with the undeinably catchy "No Disgrace." The album's strongest points include "The Singing Wood," a nod to some of Traffic's more haunting material, as well as the deep groove of "Bad Habit," with its subtle use of layered instrumentation ranging from lush string sections, dirty acoustics, and full-out scorching electric guitar lines. Unfinished Business plays out as a varied and truly complete work. Four stars.

  • Kilcourse covers a lot of guitar ground.
    author: Gordon MacDonald

This CD reveals Brian's virtuosity relative to the guitar and to his lyrics. With his guitar he travels everywhere from melodic acoustical to good old rock and roll! With his lyrics, he reveals his introspective side to his rye sense of humor. Mixed incredibly, with 12 songs that cover the gamet!!

  • Great rock 'n' roll album.
