TEXAS STATE MUSICIAN NOMINEE
Kelli Grant, the Queen of Swing™
"Swing Like That" is a tribute album to Texas Swing legend, "Bob Wills and his Texas Playboys", enlisting the aid of several of the Playboys. Produced by Bob's lead guitarist from 1962-'63, Johnny Patterson knows how western swing, "swings".
Labeled "The Queen of Swing" by R&B legend, Carl Perkins for her unique yet awesome piano style. With a pulse driving rhythm, gyrating leads and a walking left handed bassline, Kelli's signature style “swings” in the truest definition of the word.
Texas Swing legend Cliff Bruner exclaimed, " alittle lady loaded with lots of talent."
In 2002, due in part to the success of this CD, Kelli was inducted into the Western Swing Hall of Fame in Seattle, Wa. Pres. Lou Bischoff, stated, “the true Queen of Western Swing.” Kelli respectfully conceeds that title to only female Texas Playboy, Louise Rowe who not historically deserves it but musically, since she played upright bass.

Being the Queen of Swing™ and from Texas, it was only natural for this Kilgore native to record a tribute album to Texas Swing legend, Bob Wills. Enlisting several of Bob’s own, Texas Playboys, the CD has topped those charts at an impressive #6 and her own swing tune, “Honky Tonk Hardwood Floor” at #2. Mike Gross of WVOF review of the CD states:
“… a very talented vocalist that can swing as good as perhaps that same, Bob Wills.”
Musicians Featured:
Albert Talley - Steel Guitar (President of the Steel Guitar Association - Texas)
“Little Red” Hayes - Fiddle (worked with Jim Reeves/Mel Tillis/Hank Thompson)
Casey Dickens - Drums (bookkeeper for Bob Wills and personal friend to the man)
Johnny Patterson - Lead Guitar (producer/musician/songwriter/engineer)
Kelli Grant - Bass, Piano, Lead & Harmony Vocals (Arranger/producer/engineer)

Although Kelli has been listed, recognized and charted in other genre’s, she always includes some of Bob Wills’ tunes. CD’s;
Blues to Me!: Trouble In Mind, Walkin’ In the Shadow of the Blues (available at www.CDBaby.com)
Swing ‘n Blues: Milkcow Blues, Blues For Dixie, Sweet Kind of Love, Milton Brown’s - Chinatown, My Chinatown &
Basin Street Blues
Softer Side of Swing: Features Texas Playboys', Curly Lewis on fiddle and Bob White, Steel Guitar/Dubro.

The awards and accolades continue to grow in Western Swing with Kelli being NOMINATED for the Will Rogers Award by the Academy of Western Artist - Western Swing Artist / Female, 2006 & 2007.

With her credentials growing in Western Swing ...
Kelli wrote and performs her original musical revue, “Swing Me Back to Texas.” like her highly acclaimed, “Swingin’ the Blues” revue, the format is to showcase Kelli’s CD’s and award winning songwriting talents with one distinct difference. As with many artist, Kelli has been recognized, charted and listed in a variety of musical genre’s; however, being from Texas and the Queen of Swing™, this show is based on the history of Texas Swing and it’s creators utilizing several of Bob Wills’ band members, The Texas Playboys. Although the list of those legends is dwindling, Kelli tries to have a few join her own band, “the Swing Kings” on all of her concerts. With a few anecdotes of what it was like working and traveling with the King of Western Swing, Kelli salutes the King of Western Swing & her Texas heritage.

Her 207 CD, “Don’t Mess with Texas” is another major accomplishment to add to her already impressive career. After receiving much praise from Austin, the Texas Department of Transportation has issued a special license granting Ms. Grant permission for use of their logo, a first for TxDot.
The 12 cut CD, once again showcases Kelli's own songwriting talents with more than half of the song list Kelli‘s own including the title cut which is a colorful and descriptive reflection on the sights and sounds of Texas. Speaking of sounds the title features several former Texas Playboys.

Kelli has also been NOMINATED by the Texas Commission on the Arts to participate in the Mid-America Arts Alliance Touring Roster ‘07, with performance fees subsidized by the National Endowment for the Arts. She is on the Texas Touring Roster until Sept. ‘07, with co-funding by the Texas Commission on the Arts. Considered an authority on the musical forms of “Blues” and “Swing,” the TCA is sponsoring Kelli for submission to the Mid-Atlantic Arts International Touring Roster.

Enfin un compact cd qui sort de l'ordinaire. Bravo Kelli et félicitation pour votre CD " Swing like that ".

  • Keep On Swingin' Kelli!!
