The CD Peace Talk: The Other Side of the Story is a collection of stories and songs that tell the story that is not being heard, the story of Peace. It is a balanced collection of work that helps the listener examines the subject of peace and conflict resolution from many vantage points. It is now available for the public.
This collection of tales and songs comes from a wide variety of perspectives. We have stories told by high school students, a draft dodger, and a solider examining the subject of peace and peaceful choices.
The collection produced by Professional Storyteller Kevin D. Cordi said the collection is trying to tell the story, with song and story that is not in the modern media.
“Every day we are bombarded with stories about the war and we only hear one side. We are daily blasted with stories about killing. This is not only during the war, but in our streets and even in our schools. We need to listen to the other side of the story so that we can examine the choices that are offered by peaceful action,” says Cordi.
“We hear the story of anger, the story of warâ€"the story of violence. Whether we are watching brutal TV images or encouraged to answer problems with misguided fists, we are bombarded with a direct and indirect message; violence can solve problems. This Cd reminds the listener of the “other side of the story” or in other words, the story of Peace. With an amazing cast of storytellers and musicians we have assembled tales that question violent behavior and propose peaceful resolution. We hope this collection inspires you to promote your own story of peace and share it with others.”
The Stories Include:
Cell-ism: A powerful collection of vignettes that show the dangers of racism.
Dear Mr. President: Award-winning folk musician/storyteller addresses the president in song.
The Beast Within: A Parable about War
Tribute at Butaritari: A true story about the marines of World War II who were not forgotten by the Island People.
In addition the Professional Storyteller Kevin Cordi, some of the artists are:
Doug Banner is a Washington based storyteller, musician, flute maker and teacher. He tells a story of what happens when a Vietnam vet meets a draft dodger.
Pat Mendoza, an internationally acclaimed storyteller, author, singer, and Vietnam Vet.
His story is about a true story about World War II and the kindness of strangers.
Christine Ledoux, a folk-musician and storyteller who asks the president a question about his actions during war time.
John Clerigh, folk musician sings a song about being a “Child of Peace.”
Voices of Illusion, high school students from Hanford High School
Voices of the Valley, a talented storytelling guild in the Central Valley in California.
“Anyone who is trying to understand peaceful actions and questions the choice of violence should hear this CD. It is an impressive statement about understanding peace is a way that reaches others. Using story helps spread the word.”
Some of the proceeds of this CD will go to Alternatives to Violence Project, Teaching Tolerance, or the Voices across America Youth Storytelling Project.
