notes

Kevin, along with his partner Brian Doherty, form the group Evans and Doherty and are in constant demand world wide. They have ten dedicated recordings to their credit as well as numerous compilations. The group Evans and Doherty have been described as "The greatest folk duo still performing in the world" by Gerry Taylor of the Telegraph Journal. When not touring with Evans and Doherty, Kevin works with high end Celtic performers such as Tommy Makem, Liam Clancy, Rita MacNeil, John McDerrmott, Ashley MacIsaac, The Fureys, Natalie MacMaster, The Irish Descendants, Dave MacIsaac, Foster and Allen, Great Big Sea and Phil Coulter both live and in the studio. He is a multi instrumentalist who has been described as a "Jack of all trades and a master of all" in the Boston Globe. As lead vocalist for the country-folk group, The Garrison Bros., his voice made the top ten six times in a three year period...four of those at #1! His smooth vocals have also been featured on numerous national T.V. and radio commercials for grocery superstores, oil and gas companies, pizza chains and tourism for at least four provinces. Kevin has enjoyed success as a song writer with covers by John McDermott, Tommy Makem and Liam Clancy, Sean Tyrrell, The Garrison Bros., Dave Craig, Colcannon, The Gamble Family, and, of course, Evans and Doherty. In 1998 Kevin's "Christmas Memories" achieved Platinum status for John McDermott. The song "Silver Sea" alone has been recorded over 30 times. As a record producer he has been in the studio with Liam Clancy, Rik Barron, Laura Smith, Roger Stone, Breton, Natalie MacMaster, Bruce Guthro, Connie and Paul, Anthony Risessco, Celtic Connection, Lisa MacDougall, Dave MacIsaac, Dave Stone, Richard Wood, Modabo, John Gracie, Great Big Sea, Terry Kelly, McGinty, The Cornerboys, Signal Hill, The Monks of Nova Nada, The Halifax Explosion Project, Ray Pelletier and Connie MacAskill to mention just a few. He is in the middle of a new project with Delores Boudreau which features songs in English, French and Gaelic and the playing of percussion guru Tom Roach. Recently Kevin has moved to Ireland where he runs Liam Clancy Studios and works with the Celtic Folk legend Liam Clancy. Since his return he has recorded the Irish group Arcanadh, young up and comer Robert Power and Kevin Byrne. Live at the Marine was recorded on a lovely June evening in Kevin's hometown of Dungarvan, Co.Waterford on the sunny south coast of Ireland.

Hey, Kevin, you coming back to Halifax anytime soon??

  • Can't go wrong with a live Kevin Evans recording

While Kevin makes great music inside and outside the studio, nothing beats a live Kevin Evans recording. This CD has a great mix of Kevin's original songs (The Highway Maid has always been a favorite of mine) and songs from other people that Kevin makes his own (If I Had A Boat is superb!). This CD offers fans 80 minutes of great guitar playing, singing, and entertainment. It was a treat to track down this CD!

Excellent, as always. I've been a fan for years and was so pleased with the song selection on this CD.....some of my favourites!

  • Evans at his best.

I've known Kevin since the mid-70s and was glad to finally find a solo effort of his. A nice collection of tunes to show his range vocally and, as always, guitar playing par excellence. The Orchard and Roseville Fair have long been favorites of mine and I was not disappointed to see them included. The banter between tracks provided the listener with a comfortable intimacy, like being there in the corner, with a wee glass of Jamieson's, passing the evening with friends. Much enjoyed!

  • This one wakes up all the senses!

This is good, good, good. I love the variety of moods and rhythms and My Dirty Life and Times is just incredible and a little bit blue-sy. The entire CD is sensational. Love the bonus track. I will be waiting, impatiently, for Kevin's next solo CD. Way to Go!!!

  • A great CD with a fantastic variety of music.

Have been a fan of Evans and Doherty for many years. Kevin shines on this CD. I'm so glad that he selected a live venue to make his solo debut. The song selection is great and varied. Bravo Kevin!!

Who can say what it is that sends that chill up your spine, that crashes through your nervous system, leaving a wake of goosebumps on every inch of flesh? Maybe it's some sort of recognition in your soul, some familiar ache that you haven't been able to vocalize before- whatever it is that bypasses the mind and goes straight to that untamed spirit you like to keep in check, Mr. Evans has got "it". In a live album, his voice lulls and enchants, matched only in heartfelt beauty by the warmth of his guitar ("Road Not Taken" totally had me captivated). For any fan of the singer/songwriter craft, Mr. Evans is an artist to investigate.
