Singer/rapper/songwriter, Kenyona……aka, Lady Charles.
Born in Brooklyn, New York, KENYONA's childhood was shaped in the Hollis section of, Queens, NY, where her family had moved and where she grew up in the long shadows and influence of some of rap music’s greatest pioneers, RUN DMC and LL COOL J. In fact, Little Kimmie, as they called Kenyona on the block, delivered newspapers to the house of DMC’s parents.
Kenyona’s experience as an artist began in high school where she had teamed up with lifelong friend, Lisa, and they out- spit the guys in cyphers. Kenyona, who had come to be known as “Earth’s Angel” next hooked up with female vocalist, Dove, and the two performed as “Angel Dove”, with Kenyona doing the rapping while Dove handled the singing. But soon, Kenyona discovered that she could sing as well. So it wasn’t long before “EA” was doing shows on her own, rapping and singing.
In a Manhattan studio one night while laying down a guest verse on an album for New York rapper, Poetry the Rugged Don, Kenyona was heard by a rep for independent label, BeatForce Recordings. That one verse was enough to catch the label’s attention and after numerous meetings, resulted in Kenyona inking a recording contract with BeatForce Recordings. Kenyona spent months searching for the hottest beats, writing and recording, all the while holding down a full-time job. The result of her hard work is the auspicious debut CD, “RAZE HELL ‘TIL IT’S HEAVEN”, a melange of funk, crunk and sophistication.
Undeniably a skilled lyricist, Kenyona, who likens her style to a blend of Missy Elliot and R. Kelly, embraces a pen and writes with an intensity which she unleashes in her vocal dynamism. An example of her intensity is found in the touching composition, "Departure", which addresses a mother's agonizing ambivalence associated with abortion, showing KENYONA to be not only a real rapper, but at the same time a sensitive lyricist with strong purpose. Likewise, the sultry reggae-influenced “Body2Body” keeps bodies weaving and heads bobbing and shows off Kenyona's vocal prowess. KENYNOA paints a montage through her gift of music, imparting wisdom, dispensing fun, and providing sensuality in her rhythms. “RAZE HELL ‘TIL IT’S HEAVEN” offers a dozen memorable and moving tracks that will keep both romantics and party-goers panting on the dance floor.
KENYONA is currently performing college dates and club gigs in support of her CD. Recently she got to fulfill a long-time fantasy, performing as opening concert act for two of her legendary rap heroes, Big Daddy Kane and Doug E. Fresh.
KENYONA's first single, "Back the #@*% Up" and her CD, "RAZE HELL 'TIL IT'S HEAVEN", are causing the music industry to sit up and pay attention. This talented lady is certain to attract wayward fans who have been awaiting for a rescuer from the typical and predictable.
