notes
UK act Kelly's Heels sprung out of the wreckage of post-punk guitar-pop outfit The Ashes with 1998's Gone Off Pop?!? album. Initially conceived as a recording band only, the roar of the greasepaint proved too tempting and a few live shows surrounding 1999's Blunt Cut album prompted an invitation to the first New York International Pop Overthrow, followed by increasingly wild appearances in Chicago, Hollywood and at Liverpool's legendary Cavern Club.
Dig In! - Popboomerang's new Kelly's Heels compilation cherry picks from those two albums, stirring in a couple of unreleased tracks and a handful of remixes from the 3rd Heels album, Bent Over Backwards. For good measure there's even a remix taken from last year's Three Chord Brag.
With song-writing pitched at some convergence of Beatles, Kinks and Lovin' Spoonful, Kelly's Heels obviously realise the '60s are over but want to compete against the very best.

Pop that whizzes down the highway, sends your hair flying back, shines down on you like a perfect summer day, squishes between your toes, bursts in your mouth, oozes out of your pores. Starting off with a juicy chunk of Beatlesesque, sticks-to-the-roof-of-your-mouth jangle, Kelly's Heels lights a real fire under the bum of informed Brit pop. Like an injection of pure energy, these folk have captured a kinetic momentum that saturates all five senses. Absolutely glorious pop writing.
