notes
After a million miles of traveling, 10,00 gigs and 11 records with the Tommy Castro Band, I decided to make my own. I call it Beatnik Jungle.
Big Band Jazz, Garage Rock, R&B, and even the late San Francisco Folk Scene are things that shaped these songs.
I hope you enjoy them.

What a terrific CD. I always love listening to Keith with TCB...however, he really is in to his own on this CD. It's a great piece of art ! Thanks Keith !
Love it!
author: Chris BeggsHi Keith, I love the dog barking and the first two songs are my favorite. After the 4th song it start skipping, so when I come to Maryland on July 28th I will bring it back to you to exchange. I emailed Tommy this morning and asked for my birthday if you all could put me plus one on the guest list for Rams Head in Annapolis? Please let me know if that is possible and see you there. I sure wish you would come back to Texas. Looking forward to seeing you, love Chris Beggs
Beatnik Jungle
author: Scott CulpepperAfter hearing Keith's remarkable chops at many a Tommy Castro show, I was thrilled to find out he had done a solo recording. I immediately made the purchase (from CD Baby, of course), and suggest that all of you out there do the same. Keith pays props on this record to a diverse palette of influences... soul, funk, jazz, rock... and shows his command of each genre. Never one to go overboard, Keith's playing is tasteful and spot on. Throughout the disc, the leader steps aside to allow his bandmates room to do their thing. The real treat is the interplay between Keith and trumpet man Tom Poole. No one who has seen Keith and Tom play together behind Castro will be surprised by this. These two guys have been playing together for decades, and it shows. The trade offs are handled with skill and virtuosity. To see Keith and Tom playing live is a lesson in teamwork that should be required viewing and listening for all musicians. If I have a complaint about Beatnik Jungle, it's that the record isn't long enough. So come on Keith, hit the studio and give us some more!

author: Mike MarsceillAfter hearing Tommy Castro more times than I can count, the excellence of this CD is appreciated but not unexpected. The fact is that Keith is one of the few sax players to truly capture the R&B essence of originals like King Kurtis, Fathead Newman, Gene Ammons etc. It's great to finally hear him on his own CD.
