Album Notes

Katie Herzig was the lead singer of Newcomers Home, Boulder, CO-based band, for 8 years until deciding to continue on with a solo career. While in the band, Newcomers Sold around 15,000 cds on their own and released four albums including the most recent self titled album in May of 2005. In her mid-twenties Katie's become an over-achieving, under-divafied artist who will undoubtable have a long and fruitful career with her highly accessible music . "Initially, making a solo album was just an indulgent outlet for my songs and ideas, because I was in a band. The project was not a stretch because I had so much material just waiting for an outlet." That outlet has turned into a new career for Herzig. Already Herzig's first cd solo cd, Watch Them Fall, has had national TV play on WB's "Smallville" and radio play on NPR playing stations. Her sophomore solo album, Weightless, will undoubtedly have a similiar if not wider impact. Her first self-produced and recorded album was mixed by Gary Paczosa (Alison Krauss, Mindy Smith, Dolly Parton, etc). Wondering who her influences are? "Well it's a big confusing collage of Shawn Colvin's guts and poetry, Patty's raw goodness, Enya's layerings of harmonies and texture, a smidge of Ani's guitar punch, Norah's soft and tasty production and my love for Coldplay." It is what it is. Herzig's style begs a definition of its own.

REVIEWS

Rich / Smart / Beautiful
author: Womenfolk
The music within Weightless replicates the quality found on Watch Them Fall and is remarkably rich, but inexplicably easy to ingest. Sweet without being sickening. Herzig has somehow developed a unique talent in creating songs that are tight and lyrically smart, but not overlong and saturated with unnecessary filters. Standouts on Weightless include ‘Fools Gold,’ ‘Sweeter Than This’ and ‘Jack And Jill,’ a song co-written with singer-songwriter, Kim Richey.
