(About MP3 downloads at CD Baby)

Rainy-day melodies and vulnerable lyrics, stripped down to the basics. It's acoustic and refreshing with the catchiness and punch of pop. Shawn Colvin meets Norah Jones with a hint of Enya and Coldplay. But not really.

notes

Katie Herzig has fronted a nationally successful indie band from Boulder, CO, since she was a sophomore in college. The band, Newcomers Home, still grows strong, already selling in the teens of thousands of cds and steadily becoming a recognizable name in the band world (Check out www.newcomershome.com). So, this mid-twenties over-achieving, under-divafied artist has taken her untouched-by-Newcomers Home songs and made them clearly her own. "Really, making this album was just an indulgent outlet for my songs and ideas...often needed by those writing in a band. The project was very un-forced because I had so much material just waiting for an outlet." Already Herzig's cd has had national TV play on WB's "Smallville" and radio play on NPR playing stations. "Watch Them Fall," was co-produced with Newcomers Home's former bass player and favorite engineer/producer Chris Coleman. (See www.mixist.com). Herzig and Coleman play and sing everything that made it on the album. "Watch Them Fall" has taken a back seat to Katie's priority of being in the band, but has ended up taking a front seat in the cd players of many Newcomers Home fans as well as those who've never even heard of the band. Most recently, Herzig was chosen out of hundreds of applicants to be a finalist in a national songwriting showcase in the 2004 Planet Bluegrass Folk Festival, put on by The Telluride Bluegrass folks. Wondering who her influences are? "Well it's a big confusing collage of Shawn Colvin's guts and poetry, Patty's raw goodness, Enya's layerings of harmonies and texture, a smidge of Ani's guitar goddess punch, Norah's soft and tasty production, and my new fascination with Coldplay." It is what it is and it's luckily not a rip-off of anyone, as Herzig's style begs a definition of its own.
