In her expressive, evocative voice, Katia Keres breathes life into words and music. In between the lines and notes of songs, she discovers new layers of truth which she translates into vibrant performances of pure inspiration.Katia inherited a powerful musical legacy courtesy of her birthright. Originally from Sao Paulo, Brazil, she grew up on the music of modern masters Caetano Veloso, Milton Nascimento, Ivan Lins, Djavan , Tom Jobim and Chico Buarque.
She also absorbed classical and pop influences; and, courtesy of her musician brother, discovered progressive rock and jazz. When she first heard Paul McCartney and the Beatles, her musical world encompassed classic rock as well. When she began performing, it was clear that these influences had served her well. In Brazil, she sang in clubs and became an instant draw.
Then, in 1995, she relocated to Miami, Florida and continued to captivate audiences in the clubs. Eventually, singing other people's hits lost their resonance. So Katia translated her emerging artistry into a striking musicality of her own invention. "I want to be the best I can be," Katia says, "To share my music with as many people as possible. To me, music is pure emotion; when you can touch someone like that it is as if you have done something magical. That brings me happiness; and, just like everybody else, above all I want to be happy."
Today, what makes Katia happy is not only singing songs, but writing them as well. Though her first language is Portuguese, she now adapts her natural talent for lyrics into English. Her writing process is very spontaneous, enabling her to write songs almost instantly. As she refines her craft, she stays in the moment, channeling her experiences into songs. This also happens as she dreams. She explains, "Most of the time I wake up in the middle of the night with a melody or words in my mind, so I have a small tape recorder beside the bed so I don't forget them in the morning."
Sensitive, spontaneous, realistic: Katia Keres uses the power in her voice to channel emotions.
"A song has to mean something," she professes. "Not just the lyrics; I have to be able to feel the music as well. And her dedication to her craft is undeniable."I devote myself entirely to the song. That is all I can think about: how to make it sound better, and to make sure that whoever hears it understands that when I sang that song I truly sang it in the best way I possibly could."

author: Anthony IsomKatia, you're awesome!!! I've never heard anybody do The Christmas Song the way you sing it except Nat King Cole!!! I swear you have that nice angelic voice quality. You artists out there who like that fast music, keep goin' but don't forget that, like Katia's proved, slow music has just as much power! Slow and moving music will bring forth beauty and majestic sound!!! Glorious Katia!!! Keep singing!!!
