notes

Kate Weekes grew up in Eastern Ontario, where at 13 she made her musical debut playing in a Beatles cover band. By the time she was19, her summers of busking, hitching and canoeing had inspired her first self-penned tune “Land Shaping the People” and a move to the Yukon Territorry, where she has been living for the past four years.

Now a prolific songwriter, Kate has played the main stages of festivals throughout the Yukon, B.C. and Ontario. Kate's poetic lyrics are driven by an interest in northern life and are experiential. Bold guitar-playing drives her songs and keeps listeners on edge. She has developed her own style of story-telling, bringing listeners to the headwinds of the Peel River and the restless waters of Lake Laberge.

Kate released this 5 song EP, “Land Shaping The People” in February 2006 with Juno Award winning producer Bob Hamilton at the helm. The recording has been received with critical acclaim and national airplay.

Just recieved my CD from Kate & the gang. Really great service guys, and genuinely personal. Don't lose that. Kate , you have brought some fresh air from Yukon into a grey, wet Wales. I am sure that you will get a lot of airplay on stations all over the world once the word spreads. You could be deadly once if you start getting angry about the way climate change will soon change our world, and destroying the place you love. In my hippy youth it was the bomb and unlistening politicians. Your generation has a harder battle to fight. Music is a powerful weapon. I hope to find you some potential bookings in Wales, so keep in touch. Looking forward to hearing you live. John K
