Karla Anderson

Karla Anderson burst on to the world music stage in 2005 when her song “What Else Can I Do? was featured in the hit television series “Joan of Arcadia”. The show used two of Karla’s songs but it was “the blanket song” (as her fans call it) that generated overwhelming response from around the world. She followed up that exposure with her debut release “The Embassy Sessions” in August of 2005, and the wheels were set in motion. Since that time Karla’s music has been ingraining itself into the hearts of audiences wherever she appears and wherever the music is played. Her disc has topped the charts on many stations including America’s pre-eminent folk music station WUMB in Boston. Her appearance on the CBC Television Special “Alberta Bound – A Centennial Celebration” brought another legion of new fans. This special featured artists and icons including k.d. lang, Ian Tyson, Jann Arden and Nickleback, while featuring Corb Lund and Karla Anderson as the future of Alberta’s rich musical legacy. In December of 2005, Karla won the “Best New Artist” award at the Canadian Folk Music Awards.

The year 2006 saw Karla spending a great deal of her time building a new house for her three boys and herself to move into, but it did not prevent her from appearing at numerous music festivals and music clubs from Vancouver Island to Toronto. She has shared stages with Ruthie Foster, Chip Taylor and Carrie Rodriguez, Martyn Joesph, Keiran Kane and Kevin Welch, Harry Manx, David Francey and Gordie Sampson.

Karla will be playing selected festivals and concerts this summer while working her schedule around the recording of her follow up disc. The new disc will be in stores by the fall of this year and Karla will be touring extensively in support of the new recording.

The songs are great and her voice is completely magical. I want to support Karla since I grew up in Spruce Grove, AB. The CD was good, a little raw perhaps, in my opinion. I seem to like perfect radio versions, and this is not. Good tunes!

  • beautiful song

I am a Palliative Care nurse and was at a seminar today where the keynote speaker, a doctor played this song for us. It touched my heart and brought tears to my eyes. I could so relate to the lyrics of the song as when a patient is dying its really all that I can do for them. It really hit home. Thanks.

  • Playing it over and over

Absolutely amazing! I heard this artist's song "What else can I do" on a CBC special "Alberta Bound" and immediately googled her name to learn more. Since receiving her cd yesterday, I have listened to it non-stop - the lyrics are soul-bearing, the musicians are so seemless yet their playing seems effortless. You feel like you are in the room with them and the pleasure they feel in their playing is tangible. I am so glad I bought this cd and I'm telling all my friends about this incredible artist.

What an incredible musical experience. The Embassy Sessions brought us the greatest listening experience we've had in a long time. Keep singing Karla!

  • Norah Jones meets Rosie Thomas. Karla loves singing. Everybody wins.

"What Else Can I do", heard on my car radio, got me right home to buy this album, and it delights more the more I play it. The intimacy of the performances, the dialed down, relaxed accompaniment keep pulling me back. You can hear an artist (and backup band) dripping with musical talent discovering how much they love making music together. Brava; keep making this sound, and thanks.

There is no way to describe the beautiful music that singer Karla Anderson is able to project in her new CD Embassy Sessions. Her voice, her words, will touch your soul and give you reason to reflect and enjoy the music. She is truly the very best artist in her musical venue. When I play my iTunes and one of her songs comes on, I immediately turn it up, kick back, and listen. A hit! A must have CD for anybody's taste and collection!
