notes

The album includes the highly acclaimed single release of Phil Collins 1981 classic "In The Air Tonight". He never imagined his song would turn out like this - out goes the piano and in comes delicate acoustic guitars and a heavenly female voice. A totally beautiful and audacious reinterpretation of Phil's 1981 classic.

Once you listen to this recording you'll appreciate how perfectly the song suits Karen's voice, and you'll hear how this new dramatic arrangement heightens both the emotional vulnerability in her voice and the storyline within the song. Karen's re-make of the song simply "raises the hairs on the back of your neck".

About Karen Shelley
Karen, 25 and from the UK, has been described as "having a most smooth and rounded voice evocative of Eva Cassidy, Nora Jones, Alison Moyet and Karen Carpenter, yet with her own unique tone and style".

After attending art school, Karen studied vocal technique with Arlene Randozzo of the Metropolitan Opera, New York, and jazz singing at the Guildhall School of Music, London. Karen has spent the last four years honing her vocal skills by singing on the club circuit, plus two television appearances on the Barrymore Show, as well as working as a session singer with Rob Manzoli (Right Said Fred).

Karen's vision was always to find her own voice and style. A revelation occurred just two years ago when Karen was given a guitar after a relationship break-up. Karen took to the guitar like a long lost friend and soon realised she could write moving and poignant songs as an emotional outlet for her feelings. It was immediately evident that the themes of her songs touched a chord with listeners: a unique sense of expressiveness and honesty is an integral part of her voice and seeps through all her performances. This is unmistakable on self-penned tracks such as Kiss The World Goodbye, which is hauntingly beautiful, and heartfelt classic Precious Love, plus Nothing Else Will Do, which has a dreamlike quality. Karen's voice can transport you anywhere and everywhere. Escape with this CD.

She has a lovely gentle voice and the songs seem heartfelt. The guitar styles are really nice - from beauitful acoustic to soaring melodies. I like Karen Shelley!
