notes
Karen Benjey's unique vocal style, emotive voice and innovative techniques bring a memorable quality to her repertoire of jazz standards. Her sensitivity to the ballad and the spontaneous elements of the music, imparts authenticity to her interpretation of jazz in its pure form. The elegance of Karen's sound, combined with superb accompaniment from Randy Brecker (Brecker Brothers), Joe La Barbera (Bill Evans/TonyBennett), David Goldblatt (Diana Ross) and Terry Plumeri (Roberta Flack) make for a classic jazz experience. Produced by Terry Plumeri (Conductor of the Moscow Philharmonic/IFP Spirit Awards nominee for Best Score) and mixed and mastered by Terry Plumeri and 2006 Grammy Award winning mastering engineer Arnie Acosta (U2 – How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb), the sonic qualities of this recording promise to delight audiophiles everywhere.

All of You
author: Carol EttmanKaren is certainly one of the best singers around ... great ears, great time and cool (and intelligent) choices in improvisation. Her voice is instantly recognizable - not an minor accomplishment. But then Karen's a true pro and I have tremendous respect for her talent. Yes, I've know her a few years, have heard her in person but not enough. I wish her the very best with "All of You" and hope it's only the second CD in a string of more to come. Karen certainly qualifies for Downbeat's talent deserving wider recognition. You go girl! PS: Of course Terri, Randy and David and superb, but Joe LaBarbera ... super cool. Hopefully you play on this CD or will do so in the future.
All Of You
author: Harry CharthernKaren's 1st CD became my absolute favorite listening experience, I enjoyed every cut many, many times. Having listened to Karen in person, I was certain that the new Cd would be great, but I could not imagine that it would be as good as the first. FOOLISH ME!! "All Of You" is a treasure. My favorite cut is, "It's Alright With Me". She gives a reading that is saucy, a little coy and exceptionally witty, you can hear the wink in her voice as she assures her companion that this really is the "right" place and time. I highly recommend this CD, I also highly recommend catching Karen in person. Do this and you will discover that "All Of You' just scratches the surface, and you will then join me in imploring Karn to make "All Of You" the second of many.
All of You
author: Jon DrossosAbsolutely stunning cd. I loved Benjey's phrasing and voice quality. The backing band, especially Terry Plumeri, the bass player, is outstanding. Will listen to this music over and over again. A definite "must buy".
New Find
author: Joy HildebrandA musical friend of mine suggested I listen, I did and I won't tire of this lovely album. I listed in my car and it's a very nice companion to have along for the ride. Highly recommended.
Fantastic Jazz
author: Ben TaversExtremely beautiful voice and a fantastic performance by all.
Sweetens Time
author: R. BedfordThis CD is one of those recordings you always look for. The kind that sweetens your experience in time, whether you are alone or with your best friend. My personal favorite is Tenderly, a late night excursion into an intimate conversation between voice and piano. I also love It's Alright With Me because of the cool groove the band lays down and the way Karen floats over the top of it.
The Grace of Real Jazz!
author: katie eslamiIt is beautiful, crisp, warm and tender, with moments of exuberance performed by all, those which bring the perfomers and the listener to a place of tender oneness.
Stunning Quality
author: Thaddeus MalloryInspired by these reviews, I certainly purchased "All of You" with high expectations--especially given the breadth of talent gathered for its production. However, that hardly prepared me for its impact. Karen Benjey is a profoundly "new" voice--new in the way that a certain rare beauty, regardless of how many ways that has been defined, will startle then mesmerize with its freshness, distinction and purity. I hushed the crackle of my Sunday NY Times and sat motionless when Ms. Benjey's soulful yet crystalline voice emerged from my sound system. "All of You" is a heart-stopping CD. This perfect album brings with it the excitement of witnessing greatness that is well on its way to becoming legendary.
Real Jazz Vocals with a fresh point of View!
author: J. SwansonReal jazz vocals with a fresh point of view…Pretty hard to come by these days with the glut of club date influenced female vocal recordings available. But Karen Benjey has accomplished just that…Real jazz vocals from a different set of eyes! Her roots show through occasionally, but when you are finished experiencing the entire CD, it is evident you have been introduced to an original voice which speaks it’s own brand of poetry. 11 tracks, each with it’s own specific personality and each with it’s own moments of vocal brilliance. Vocal brilliance, which stands the test of repeated listening and still beckons you back for more. The entire album has a warm and flowing quality, great solos from the accompanying musicians and is full of authentic jazz ambience. It has quickly become one of my favorite musical friends of late.
Another Winner
author: Ray BiscogliaWhen I heard Karen was releasing her 2nd CD my first thought was that it would be hard matching her first release. But she did it on all counts. From the sultry "I'll be Around" to the bluesy "Moanin'" Karen exhibits her incredible range of style, texture and feeling. The selection of songs and the accompanying artists should appeal to every jazz enthusiast. The musicians’ inspiring performances are a perfect compliment to Karen's voice both in their comping and solos. Looks like Karen has another winner.
Pure Pleasure
author: J.SchecterWhat a rare find to stumble upon this recording! This is the stuff of which real music is made. A real female jazz vocalist in a world of ho-hum artists.
Being There
author: christopher JIf Karen Benjey and producer Terry Plumeri set out to make an intimate sounding recording, they have accomplished it. First time I listened on my computer speakers, then an ipod. No, the best way is on a real stereo late evening. You'll hear every nuance in this new jazz singer's voice and you will be "in the room". Beautiful!
World-Class/Timeless
author: g.p.stevensoni am always curious how artists choose song a order for a recording. It must have been hard to determine the order on this cd, every song deserves to be the first track. not a dud on this one. Karen Benjay's voice can not be described, it has to be heard! it is obvious that all the musicians and recording engineers are all world-class players, but its clear that Karen inspired a humility amongst the musicians to " serve the music. T. Plumeri exhibits mastery of his bass craft. His time is definitive, but not overstated. his notes are articulate. his presence clearly gives the rest of group a liberty to be truly "in the moment". J. La Barbera is subtle and liquid. he reacts responds, but never bullies or hogs the conversation. D Goldblatt is concise, but not static. he clearly is enthusiastic about what is going on here. i can honestly say i have not heard R. Brecker play like this on any prior recording. he has always sounded profoundly serious to me(not a bad thing), but here he sounds like is actually having a great time. this recording documents the integrity that artists are capable of when provided with the neccessary resources, which is why this recording has a timeless quality.
Great Jazz Vocal CD!
author: Diane W.Karen Benjey’s All Of You is full of vocal charm in a setting of beautiful and sensitive accompaniment by David Goldblatt, Joe La Barbera and Terry Plumeri…With lots of great color on top by Randy Brecker. Well worth the dime!
