notes

Kandi Coded began in 2003 when guitarist/vocalist Tom Rickell and drummer/vocalist Johnny Graziadei bumped heads in Seattle. Graziadei ran the Bay Area indie label Sesha Press for nearly 10 years before moving to Seattle in 1998 to work with Sub Pop. After Rickell's fourteen years in the NYC music scene playing with bands like the aptly named Lowdown Payment, September 11th made it clear that it was time for a change. Together they began spontaneously writing songs from the first minute they started playing. Realizing that they had a huge sound just as a duo, they started recording demos even before they completed the lineup.

When guitarist (and long time Graziadei friend) Aaron Percelle moved to Seattle, fresh off the road with High On Fire, they temporarily stirred his guitar into the mix and began performing around Seattle with Rickell playing bass. After several starts and stops with different guitarists they ran into bassist Cristina Calle (D.C.'s The Stigmatics and Olympia's Witchy Poo) at an Eagles of Death Metal at an Easy Street Records in-store performance . With Rickell switching to guitar, the new lineup immediately launched the band to a whole new level. They suddenly found themselves headlining weekend nights, first at Neumos, and then at the Showbox. Their CD release party even featured the live debut of snowboard master Jaime Lynn on rhythm guitar.

The excitement continues with the completion of their debut album, "Sucrose Fixation". The album showcases the band's wide range of sonic and sleazy musical influences as well as it does their stong and structured songwriting. The album has been released by Dirty Sock Records, in affiliation with Volcom Entertainment. This summer looks to be a promising one for the group!
