notes

Paul Kamm & Eleanore MacDonald have been performing Original Contemporary Folk Music together for 20 years. Their music, a blend of contemporary and traditional styles, is graced by their exquisite harmony, compelling songwriting, deceptively simple arrangements and intricate guitar work. Both Paul & Eleanore have "sure and graceful voices but oh, when they meld it's one of those majestic, sinfully rich pleasures-- like a musical S'more..." (Dirty Linen Mag. #40)

"Soaring harmonies delivering a powerful and empowering message ... and lots of fun to boot!" Anne Feeney

"Paul and Eleanore are... two fine voices from the West that deserve a wider audience." Utah Phillips

"I once heard Paul Kamm and Eleanore MacDonald at 4:30 in the morning and was sure I must have been dreaming, I pulled them aside the next day and made them sing again to prove it wasn't a mirage, and they are for real, GREAT writing and harmonies that can fuse your spine...." Ellis Paul

A stellar oldie by the well loved duo. Celtic in influence but the real joy is how these two meld, their voices become one. As mentioned in the other review about MacDonald - apparently she is the ears, the producer, she arranges the harmony and much of the other work. She is 50 per cent of the duo. None of their harmony work is what some consider to be 'back up singing'! In their later works, her role becomes more apparent, she sings more lead while Kamm sings more harmony and she and Kamm team up to co-write many of the songs. This recording is awash with their love for their Celtic roots, though they treat them in their own unique fashion. There is even a Peace song here - they were socially aware, even back in 1990. Two people, two voices, beautiful songs, a match made in heaven.

Paul Kamm has a great voice and writes great lyrics! I like most of the songs on this CD, and they have a straightforward folk string sound with some synth on a few songs. Although Eleanore is listed just like Paul on the cover, she is a backup/ harmony singer who sings for ~1/2 of the time and does not play any instruments. Her harmonies are very good and were a big reason I bought the CD. "All the Young Boys" is my favorite. Recommended.
