World renowned soprano Kallen Esperian sings fully orchestrated versions of her favorite torch songs.

Ms. Esperian catapulted to the world stage as a winner of the Luciano Pavarotti International Voice Competition in her early twenties, becoming one of the leading sopranos of our time. She has paired with such opera greats as Mr. Pavarotti, Placido Domingo, and Jose Carreras, appearing in the world arenas of New York, Milan, Paris, London, Munich, and Berlin. Ms. Esperian has been featured on film in the documentary “Distant Harmony” highlighting her groundbreaking performances in China with Luciano Pavarotti. While she continues to perform on the great opera stages of the world, Ms. Esperian remains true to her origins by making her home in Memphis, Tn, close to her mother’s Mississippi beginnings.

This collection of love songs, arranged and conducted by Sam Shoup, vividly recalls the sounds of Nat Cole, Frank Sinatra, Doris Day and many other great singers. As Kallen says, “These are songs of a bygone era, a time of romance, and also, a time of great hope.”

    For those who think opera singers can't do crossover...this is the perfect album. Ms Esperian brings warmth and radiance to each song...and the orchestrations are superb. RECOMMENDED !!!

    stupendous, singular voice. does blues and torch songs with real feeling and emotionll (take that doris day even though i was a fan of your movie & song, "love me or leave me.") usually, i do not care at all for opera singers singing in other genres--the songs usually sound "perfectly, exquisitely sung" without any soul that popular singers can give it. Not so here; moreover, kallen gets all the feelings, emotions in there, with beautiful, exquisite sound as well. i weep that there are no recordings of operas or arias available--YET!!
