notes

The Kalamazoo Ringers is - to the best of our knowledge –
the oldest, continuously performing community handbell choir in the country.

Founded in 1981 when there were no community choirs to be found, the choir has grown from ten ringers playing four octaves of bells to fifteen ringers playing six octaves of bells and seven octaves of Choirchimes.

Four of the founding members are still in the group (one took a few years off, but who’s counting?) and many others have rung with the choir for more than fifteen years.

The choir has toured throughout the Midwest; as well as traveling to Canada, England, and Japan (with a side tour of China). They have also played with the Kalamazoo Symphony, for the High School Choral Festival at Western Michigan University under the direction of Weston Noble, and as featured artists at numerous AGEHR sponsored events.

KR performs two free public concerts in Kalamazoo each year,
(Christmas and Spring) and numerous contracted concerts through-out the area. The group also offers workshops for area ringers and directors along with participating in a bi-annual Bronze invitational festival.
