Kagero’s gypsy-flavored acoustic rock is knocking New York’s indie scene on it’s tushy. The music is a melting pot of tonalities and rhythms from Asia, the Middle East and Eastern Europe. The songs are sometimes beautiful imagery, sometimes sad folk tales, and sometimes silly songs about drinking. With a high-energy show that gets even the most cynical hipster up and shaking it, Kagero’s world music goulash is very tasty, even though you may not always know what you are eating.
Kaz (vocals, harp, guitar) was born in a Japanese village where he cut school to play music in local clubs until
he was old enough to pack up his axe and see the world. He got himself educated in London, inebriated in Dublin, lost in the streets of Paris and finally ended up in that home of all the world’s itinerants, New York City. As founding member and creative mastermind behind Kagero, Kaz pulls his influences from every and anywhere, bringing genres and killer hooks together in novel ways. He also likes Guiness. A lot.
ROB BASS (electric bass, vocals - Jersey) Rob is made of heavy metal, and he keeps the rock. J.W. (fiddle, saw - Ohio) moved to NYC in the year 2000, joined up with the local garage folk movement and has been trying to unlearn the Suzuki Method ever since. GEORGI (drums - Bulgaria) This bad Bulgarian grew up around music and he lays down some thick, sick, graphic beats.
The “Red and Black” EP is the starting point for this world-straddling quartet. Recorded in Kagero’s home
base of Brooklyn, New York, these three songs take you through stories of ultimate elation, callous selfishness and bitter acceptance. But Kaz’s prolificacy has hit an all time high, and the songs are spilling out of him at an alarming rate. New songs are being written all the time, and never are two live Kagero shows the same.
