notes

Justin Farren paints pictures with his songs. His lyrics, while firmly rooted in the reality of day to day life, often express his own doubts, humor, and experiences. Listeners can't help but smile as Justin takes them on descriptive journeys through his own humble observations. A native to Sacramento, Justin has written thoughtful, engaging music since eighth grade graduation. His influences include Greg Brown, Bob Dylan, and Ben Folds.
On "The sound of flight", Brian Rogers, an outstanding drummer and percussionist backs up Justin's guitar playing. There are guest appearances by Andre Fylling on piano, Kerry Marshall on organ and backing vocals, and Devin Farren on Harmonica.
"The sound of flight" is an ENHANCED CD. You can put it in your computers CD-ROM drive to watch Justin's award winning music video, "We Don't Work", and read an extended bio.
Justin thanks you for your support.

I own it, I sing to it, and it is mentioned often. Enough said.

justin bathes unabashedly in your spa. He hits the turbo jets of humanity and shampoos his beard with karma Pert. He swings the wiffle bat of honesty so as not to bruise. Once he shot 19 out of 20 free throws. Buy his cd and sing along at shows. it's better than Bikram Yoga.

  • Its damn good

  • An album of ease that makes me want to do right.
    author: Brian Rogers

This CD is inspired, inspiring, and a demonstration of what one man can do with a little help from friends. I've never seen anyone work harder and more focused than Justin Farren did while creating The Sound of Flight. This CD will forever be a breath of fresh, cool, clean air, with plenty of vocal and instrumental meat to keep me coming back time after time.

  • This CD is the tops!

    author: Casandra

Just letting anyone know who is doubting buying this cd: YOU WILL NOT BE DISSAPOINTED! Its not girly or manly or lame or anything short of magnificent. Hearing this guy in a little cafe for the first time caught me off gaurd, but hearing the CD knocked me off my feet. Months later I listen to it daily. Love it!!

  • Amazing
    author: Annie

i love this cd so much. Justin was a counseler at my camp when i was in about 7th grade and i remember he sang "the Fourth of July" and "Sleep Like Me" for the people in our cabin. i was amazed at how talented he was. now that i have the cd, each time i listen to it i feel like im back in the cabin because his songs are so natural and real. i just wish he would come back to camp so i can hear him live again!!! come back Justin! we miss you!

  • Simply Amazing
    author: Madeline Roa

I can't remember the last time I was willing to spend $10 on any CD, but Justin's is well worth every penny. It's amazing how he can take a simple and maybe even mundane subject, such as the life of a fly, and turn it into an exciting piece of musical expression. He has a knack for painting vivid and alluring pictures with his words. And, he is also an amazing guitarist. He has a way of creating the fullest sound possible with just his voice and his guitar...and his socked feet against a wooden stage ain't too bad as a percussion accompaniment to his live show. His is one of the few CD's I can listen to all the way through and love every song.

  • I remember when
    author: Jessie Ray Vaughn

I have known Justin Farren and his brother Devin (who I was in a band with a while back) for a looong time. We sorta lost contact for while but something told me to search for his music online because i knew some would be out there on the web. Justin was always an amazing musician, we always teased him because we had to work soo hard to play or write songs but for him, it seemed to just flow right out of him. He believes in his music very much and I am glad to see so many people that enjoy it as much as I do. He is a big inspiration to me and my music and I will keep him in my heart forever. "Keep It coming Justin"!

  • Blew Me Away
    author: Myles St. Jonn

I was turned on to this cd by a Sac-town local at school in San Diego, and I haven't stopped listening to this album. I can honestly say Justin Farren is my favorite lyricist since Bob Dylan. Every person I show this cd to has absolutely loved it. Justin Farren is the real deal.

  • WoW
    author: Oberon

Extremely catchy and Well worth the money but not musically superior to anything else. basically a girly version of mason jennings. Still would recommend to most any fuggies out there with a liking fo guitar. piece out sactown homies

  • groovy
    author: Laura

A musician friend referred me to Justin because he knew my love for Jason Mraz's early material...and let me just say Justin blew me away. I was so impressed after hearing the eclectic song samples that I bought the CD immediately. For anyone who loves great acoustic guitar with soulful and clever lyrics, then Justin's the man for you.

  • STELLAR
    author: Timothy Daniel

Meaningful lyrics, expressive vocals, creative guitar work, and clean production - I don't say this often but WOW. Justin Farren is the real deal. Those of us who appreciated the early and more risky work of Jason Mraz will immediately respond to Justin Farren's delicate yet powerful arsenal of songs.

  • Wonderful music, great lyrics and a touching voice...

  • Songs from Alaska...
    author: Jamie

Justin Everytime I put on this CD the memories we shared together in that little town of MCCarthy, Alaska this past summer come flowing back with each note you sing. These songs have an amazing ability to capture special moments in time, and forever remind the listner of that one single moment. Thank you, and your CD, for all of those special moments. Sincerely Jamie

  • Nothing Short of Wonder
    author: Carly DuHain

Congrats, Justin. It's a beautiful, introspective, calculated and free-flowing, understated, all-weather emotional ride. I enjoy and recommend.

  • a cd absolutely chockfull of brilliant moments
author: Jerry Perry ... alive'n'kickin' magazine

Justin's voice is songbird sweet and full of summer soul. His guitar playing seems to know no limitations. With just his voice and an acoustic guitar the guy could get a whole room dancing. He exudes raw groove... Throughout the cd's 13 songs (and one music video) Justin makes it clear that he is a major new talent on sacramento's singer/songwriter scene.

  • JASON MRAZ, minus the contract
    author: jon

Unbelievable performer. This guy deserves every applause he receives, and every jaw that drops at his talent.

  • author: allie

wow this cd is AMAZING!! justin was my counsler at church camp last year and i remember him playing some of these songs to us as a lullaby!! its crazy to hear them on a cd and i love it so much, his music is soothing and poetic and amazing!!!

  • a pleasant diversion
    author: junior in sacto

The music superficially nabs you from the beginning. The personal level of the music, the catchy songs that evoke an emotional response, and the sheer talent of the man make for a wall of wonder. By these standards alone, it wouldn't take much to throw down five stars. Once/If the (rightfully given) awe passes, however, Justin appears to position himself in the role of a everyman protagonist, pushing a level of aloof social commentary, and everything provides grist for his mill. Songs of naive freedom, honest work, and charming wildlife paint a very folksy fairytale that it is hard not to wish for, but undertones of bitterness, teen angst, and resistance to change make the music slightly uneven. The thoughtfulness is very real, but the humbleness seems almost forced. It is an excellent CD, of that there is no doubt. Kudos to the wonderfully talented background players as well. But there is something elusive beneath the surface that seems unready for the everyday philosophies of reality that the songs want to tackle. Nonetheless, I am eager to see what Justin will do in his next release. I'm sure he won't disappoint. -edward s.h.

"Words make you think a thought. Music makes you feel a feeling. A song makes you feel a thought." - E.Y. Harbug.... Thank you, Justin, for this wonderful CD. I consider it to be music that will bookmark this period in my life and I will always look back fondly on this time.

  • There is a quake that rips the soul asunder . . . it is the pain of remembering.
    author: Tristis

The Sound of Flight is an amazing audio journey full of poignant observations and ear-candy to pinch the soul; however, lurking beneath the catchy and sometimes teasing songs there is an aura of dread directed at society and desire for something simplier. Nonetheless, this cd has not my left cd player for the last week. It is the pinching of this music that awakens my soul out of the dream of life.

  • I was balling...
    author: Cheryl

I left work after a screaming match with a boss, then got in my car to find my newly purchased CD in my player. Even though I am miles from home the music brought me back to talking for hours to my high school love down Fruitridge road. I couldn't stop the tears, Justin makes you feel the music. No words can describe it, feel it for yourself.

  • An incredible compilation of life's experiences
    author: Charlene Denice

This cd has an amazing range with an indepth look at life and it's simplicities. Each song makes you want to hear more... Justin is a remarkable artist!

  • I've listened to it 5 times since Wednesday
    author: Adrianne Wiebelhaus

Definitely my new favorite! It's perfect no matter what mood I'm in. He's just as awesome live, if not better. Can't wait for more! You won't regret it . . .

  • what if I? and other profound observations...
    author: Adrian Bourgeois

Not since the sixties have I heard such an outstanding collection of songs of such high caliber. Justin Farren could definately prove to have as profound of an effect on today's songwriters and just the youth generation in general as Bob Dylan (although stylistically I might compare him closer to Paul Simon), if only those morons at the big record labels would get off their "rusty-dusties" and sign him. I would accentuate highlights, but then every song is a highlight. Justin's lyrics really make you think about things in a profound yet bizzare way that may or may not have occured to some of us such as the similarities between flies and humans, how dying in a nuclear explosion wouldn't be such a bad thing, what God buys on e-bay, and other truly enticing subjects. And he's one hell of a guitar player to back it up. This album is perfect for every mood.

  • the sound of flight is magical.
    author: kris pederson

this disc is so amazing. with the wide variety of instruments that justin was able to utilize is impressive enough. but until you hear what he has to sing about can you really understand how excellent his talent is. singing and telling a story have never before felt so related. sometimes simon and garfunkel-y in his lyricism, every song has a fishhook (or fly swatter) or two that plays over in your head for days. it's a supreme collection justin, keep it up.

  • Magic, healing, trancending, loving, rolling, magnetized by light and love.
    author: William (Billy) Guilfoyle

The CD is fantastic, opening with a melodic and almost "Somewhere Over the Rainbow"ish song that brought me to tears earlier today acting as a catalyst for stored up bullshit from long before. Justin's voice on the CD is a sort of pilot flying all over the world of emotional range and yet keeping us all safely seatbelted in and secure for the whole ride. No anger. Just a heart full of love shining in every sentence and a shared curiousity about all that is around, bringing us all together for a closer look through a very in-touch perspective. I'm so blessed to live in Sacramento and be around such a talent and have access to something so inspiring and true and original!! I love it.

  • Justin is my favorite, for very good reasons.
    author: Rachel

The Sound Of Flight rocks. And by 'rocks', I mean that once I heard it, it was on a continual loop either in the CD player or in my head. I started judging how much time had passed by how many times it had played through. And though it's been a good week and a half, I still can't get enough of it. I didn't know that it was possible to be this good at playing guitar and singing and writing songs.
