notes
Juniper Lane is a four-piece modern rock band from Washington, DC. Their sound is characterized by soaring female vocals, and rich, full arrangements. Their melodically driven songs have attracted an enthusiastic audience to date. They have released two full-length albums, Counting, and Tightrope.
Juniper Lane released their album, Counting, in the fall of '99. This first album was well-received in the DC area, and afforded Juniper Lane many great show opportunities. The success of their live shows gave them the credibility needed to work with some great industry professionals on their second CD, Tightrope. Juniper Lane was fortunate enough to work with producer Ted Comerford (ebo, Long Stem Daisies, Lucky Town, Virginia Coalition, Heather Grey) and mixing engineers Mitch Easter (REM, Ben Folds Five, Suzanne Vega, The Squirrel Nut Zippers, The Connels, Dinosaur Jr.), and Jim Ebert (Meredith Brooks, Marvelous 3, Everything, Cowboy Mouth, Jason Faulkner). The album was recorded at The Fidelitorium and was mixed at The Fidelitorium and Quad Studios. Ted, Jim and Mitch were instrumental in shaping Juniper Lane's songs to fit mainstream and alternative rock radio.

Better Than Evanescence!
author: Media-JunkieLike Evanescence's sound, but tired of all the songs sounding the same? Check out Juniper Lane! They have the same hard-driving sound, but there is more variety to the music. Good from first track to last - give it a try!
Awesome!
author: erinGreat album from start to finish.
Loved It! Recommended by a friend of the band
author: LisaLove the soft melodic sound they bring! Not a music buff, but know what I like! I love them! From a regular joe nobody I highly recommend this group! Both albums!
More intelligent and musically interesting than commercial pop music
author: Clifford KrauseAlbum, as in title song, is about youthful optimism. Of course so are most pop songs, but these lyrics are more intelligent and subjective, with more interesting, personal, and peculiar metaphors. The singer's extraordinary vocal talents make these songs particularly plaintive and sweet. I really like that voice.
Delightful
author: A FanGreat cd, love Train and the ending music to silence waits is very catchy. Interested in obtaining earlier albums, but very hard to find. Highly recommended.
Wonderful
author: Jay ChangI caught this band by accident late one night on NJN. I stayed up till 2am to watch the show just so I could see in the closing credits what the name of the band was. I love this CD, I'm eagerly awaiting their second release, and I'm totally in love with the lead singer. I hope they come to Philly so I can admire her in person :)
Polished, Refined, Vibrant and Colorful!
author: "Crash"This CD is not surprizingly another sensational album that should be added to your collection. Just as good as the first album with more energy! More widespread Radio play should be in the works for this CD!
Tightrope has it all!
author: KristenTightrope has that special something you are looking for in an album, it's one of those albums you can listen to over and over and never skip a track. Every song hauntingly beautiful and Vivion Smiths vocals and lyrics, well they just ROCK!...if you are looking for just a great listen and one that never grows old, pick up Tightrope, you will NOT be disappointed!
You wont be disappointed!
author: Don MichalekTightrope is an absolute masterpiece. Vivion Smith's endearing, sweet vocal ability make this one of the top female fronted artists on the indie market today. If a band were to go head to head with Juniper Lane in a competition, the hands down winner would be Jupiter Lane. Perhaps this review is a bit unconventional, but in my own words... If this CD were to be slipped into the Top 10 section at your local Target, you would pick it up, put it in your cart and play it endlessley not ever knowing this band has no label affiliation. If I could I would give this CD 10 stars. Why this is not a top seller I will never know, and neither will you if you give Tightrope a listen. Masterpiece production, sexy vocals...incredible songs!
This album is one tight bundle of energy, bursting at the seams.
author: Mish Mash Indie Music ReviewsThe most striking thing about Juniper Lane is the undeniable voice of lead singer/pianist Vivion Smith. At times she comes across with amazing strength and vitality in the vein of Fiona Apple, and at others she is gentle and introspective like Natalie Merchant. Her vocals are mesmerizing at once, drawing you in from the very first listen. The group does a wonderful job of enhancing her range, giving her room to fully express her talent through a good mix of moods and dynamics. The album begins powerfully with the explosive Grace, a song which is overwhelming with Smith's emotional delivery. Vices slithers along with biting rhythms and a catchy chorus, while Train relies on a gentle flowing melody. The trippy intro of The Glare gives way to an intensity-building progression which never lets up its angst-filled grip. This album is one tight bundle of energy, bursting at the seams.
