notes

jUNIOR are Justin Slater, Steve Pederson and Pete Arthur-three mates who began as a busking trio playing on Australian city streets and watching the passing parade. Their acoustic-driven rock songs convey stories of the everyday, reflecting the hope and tragedy of the human condition and told through rich harmonies and a captivating stage presence.

"We think of our latest record as a photo album. Even the artwork means something personal to us: the places we've been to, sections of the bigger picture. What we try to do with the songs is give people plenty of cracks to crawl into. It's not so much about your own life, it's about where we all overlap." Justin Slater

By melding an acoustic sound with the bare rock essentials (electric guitar, bass and drums, the occasional mandolin or piano), jUNIOR have crafted an impressive range of pop/rock songs that draw on their energy, passion, humor and experience. They are inspired by classic Australian singer/songwriters, and the sounds of American artists like the Counting Crows, Gin Blossoms, the Goo Goo Dolls and Ryan Adams.

"The songs are succinct, the musicianship accomplished, and the melodies singalong."
Rip It Up Magazine 2002

"Simply beautiful and beautifully simple"
dB Magazine 2002

TOURING is a way of life for jUNIOR. They perform regularly in South Australia, and frequently tour to Victoria, the Northern Territory, New South Wales and Queensland. Over the past few years they have worked to develop a national live audience. They have performed with Australian greats including Paul Kelly, Neil Murray, Chris Wilson, Things of Stone and Wood, and Renee Geyer. They have also shared stages with Australian contemporaries including Lucid, Those Bloody McKenna's, Merri-May Gill and Jodi Martin and the Unforseen.

jUNIOR play venues including The Esplanade Hotel St Kilda, The Cornish Arms North Fitzroy in Melbourne, The National in Geelong and the Farmers Arms in Daylesford. South Australian venues include The Grace Emily, The Gov, as well as Flinders, Adelaide and Underdale Universities.

jUNIOR have also appeared at festivals such as The National Folk Festival in Canberra ACT, Woodford Folk Festival Queensland, Port Fairy Folk Festival Victoria, The Victor Harbor Folk Festival South Australia, The Adelaide Fringe, Sea and Vines Festival McLaren Vale, and The Tour Down Under Willunga.

RECORDINGS are, in their own words, "jUNIOR's tribute to the passing parade, those who cross our paths and we remember their stories-from the weather-girl on an Outback television station to memories from a caravan park on Yorke Peninsula." Their 1999 debut EP Couch showcases 7 tracks inspired by a six-month tour through regional and outback South Australia and Northern Territory.

JUNIOR's first LP, Restless, was produced by Greg Arnold from legendary Australian folk rock band Things of Stone and Wood (one of the more successful Australian artists of the mid-1990s), and released in November 2001. Picking up where Couch left off, Restless traces the stories and characters found in everyday life.

"Remarkably heartfelt stories... this bands gift for telling stories of humanity at its essence is undeniable."
Rip It Up Magazine 2002

THE FUTURE is bright for jUNIOR as they prepare to take their music and tales overseas. While performing in Darwin, Australia in December 2001, they were noticed by New York City-based manager Vivek J. Tiwary, who was preparing to drive through the outback on vacation from the states. The four became fast friends. "I was struck by their passionate performance and strong songs. I soon discovered that I loved their album as much as their show, and that the guys are extremely hard-working and dedicated to their music". Within months jUNIOR were signed to Vivek's StarPolish Management. They are currently seeking a U.S. deal and building a U.S. base.

Uplifting, feel good album guaranteed to put you in a good mood...fantastic!

  • Where can I get more like this?!
    author: Interloper

Oustanding music! I've listened to this CD so much that I had to FORCE myself to put in something else for a while just so I didn't overplay it. That didn't last long. Bottom line: If you like the samples on this page then you have to get this CD. You will NOT be disappointed.

  • Straight forward acoustic rock
    author: Kornel

Indeed perfect music for a road trip, fresh and straight. Unpretentious songs that make you wonder why it sometimes seems so difficult to write good songs...

  • Refreshing
    author: Frits Brinkman (Amsterdam)

Couldn't agree more with reviewer Jolanda (the only other fan in Holland ?) Catchy acoustic rock of the highest level. Highlights: "Secret life", "Into the blue" and "Maybe she's in the next town". Also check out their other album: 'Time in the sun" (even better). And yes: It's time for a Holland tour.

  • A great CD, best one yet!
    author: Sam Osborn

A great CD that has no bad tracks. Almost as good as seeing them live. I've heard their other stuff and in my opinion this cd is the best showcase of Junior's great music.

  • Accoustic Greatness
    author: Ronin81

Anyone that likes DMB, Drivin n Cryin, Jack Johnson, etc. will LOVE this cd...if only it retains an originality that separates it from all those artists, respectively. This cd is definately a "Place in your car and find no where important to go" cd. The songs are toe tapping, well crafted, hook ladden masterpieces. I really like "Sad but True" (no Metallica relation), and the 2nd track. Great job guys! In a way, it's music like this that you kind of want to stay low key, so that the MAN won't get a hold of it an exploit it. We can only hope...

Arrestingly charismatic from the first, headlong dive into a perfect marriage between sentimentality and intangible heroism, Junior will have you catching your breath and scrambling for a hold on your heart. With pummeling acoustic guitars and windswept vocals grinding in a push-pull with stylistic voices of Counting Crows, Dave Matthews, Van Morrison and otherwise popularized, resurrected Americana roots rock, this is as good as it gets. Hitting "Play" is a thrilling lurch into 4th gear on the open road with no horizon.

  • Great cd to listen to in the car
    author: Chrissy

I love listening to new artists..this is a great cd. I would recommend it to all my friends.

  • One of my new favorites, for sure!
    author: Bethany

This cd is absolutely perfect for you if, like me, you enjoy acoustic music with an upbeat and yet mournful at times mood to it... Definitely don't judge it after your first full listen... give it a few more spins before you decide... it will grow on you, I promise!

  • Looking forward to seeing you guys in the USA!!

  • Scott's left and right hand give 2 thumbs up!
    author: Scott from Canada

I'm a punk, and I find it hard to find talented bands that I like, but this cd is awesome. Its not hard but it's catchy and thats what people want, something to sing along to like Greenday's time of your life. They are sure to go far if they keep together, and keep this good stuff going. Some songs with distortion would be cool too.

This typifies the Ozzie/Crowded House type sound - great music

Oh com'on, just do it. Just order "Restless" from Junior, sit down or go for a drive and listen to it. I reckon you'll like it. Atleast I do! And in the meantime we, here in Holland, will wait impatiently for a European mini-tour.
