notes
Born into a family of musicians, Julian Mock has made music pretty much all his life. His formal study of classic guitar began at the ripe age of two and a half, and by the age of five he was performing with his brother, sister, and parents in a classic guitar quintet. Using their west Texas home-base as a jumping-off point, the Mock Family Guitarists toured the eastern United States and Europe, as well as Colombia and Mexico, gigging and busking to enthusiastic audiences in churches, concert halls, circuses, schools, and on street corners.
Julian supplemented his musical training with cornet as a teen, then began concentrating on electric guitar. His classical background served him well as he moved into rock and jazz. He became fascinated by the intricacies, subtleties, and interrelationships of all manner of sound and and music, and much of his subsequent work is based on a refined mingling of styles and techniques.
Julian has played in a wide range of ensembles, from heavy rock and free form fusion, to backing folk singers.
In 2002 Julian composed, produced, and recorded a 16-song CD entitled "Sound Travels". Each composition was designed to focus on and develop a specific technique, without sounding like an exercise. On this album you will hear solo acoustic guitar being strummed, hammered, picked, pulled, muted, fingered, tapped, and stroked to produce intricate, unique, and delightful melodies.
In addition to working on a variety of sound art and video collage projects, Julian is preparing to release his second album of compositions for solo acoustic guitar.

a subtle masterpiece
author: alyce santoroif you are an acoustic guitar aficionado, you will more than appreciate julian mock's versatile, virtuosic technique and the originality of the compositions on this album. if you know nothing about guitar and just like to listen, well, that's okay too, because every track on "sound travels" is a pleasure to hear. in fact, if you don't know much about music you may not even hone in on the delicate intricacies of mr. mock's playing style at first, since he makes it all sound so easy. he's obviously a great talent who creates unique and exceptional work with a complete lack of pretension. this album is delight for the connoisseur and casual listener alike.
