Best thing I've heard since early Nanci Griffith
author: Toby WoodQuite wonderful, expansive songs - all of which have been carefully crafted to give the listener a real treat. Here in England we have yet to hear much from Jerree. Give it a few months and she could be really BIG! You read it here first!
Once you've heard Jerree, you just can't get enough of her
author: Doug Hardy, singer/songwriterI first met Jerree a couple of years ago and immediately thought she was among the most gifted songwriters I'd ever heard. That still holds true today. She weaves simple words with images we all can see into these wonderful songs that stick with you. I can't wait for her next CD!
Real talent
author: Ewen MacphersonWhat a shame this cd won't be heard by the multitude. She shows an amazing talent that belies her age, for sharing memories. Go on and treat yourself this is the real mccoy.
An astonishingly talented young singer.
author: Paul Lundgren, The Northland ReaderSleeping Giant is a marvelous achievement by an astonishingly talented young singer. It's also the best collection of raw and revealing song-writing since Bob Dylan's Time Out of Mind. If Gillian Welch and Joni Mitchell are planning to meet the ghost of Patsy Cline for coffee, they'd be wise to plan it around a Jerree Small performance.
- author: Peggy J. Vanduyne, Minneapolis Pulse Magazine
Small's lyrics weave stories of yesterday and the moment...Her subtle but definitive guitar playing lulls you into a sense of place, allowing you to take these lyrical trips. "Grampa Song" from her debut album, Sleeping Giant, displays with eloquence what Small is capable of.
Every song has some line I want to quote...
author: Darren Tobolt, Minnesota's Ripsaw NewsListening to Sleeping Giant by Jerree Small is Bliss. All songs are solo acoustic "A" numbers and quickly bring to mind Beth Orton and early Ani Difranco...The guitar is more than rich enough to carry the songs without overpowering the vocals. This guitar is great... Bob Mould makes great music because he communicates the beauty of gray...Jerree Small also communicates in the wonderful shades of gray... Every song has some line I want to quote or some thought I want to communicate. That is truly the mark of an album worth buying.
