notes

JS (Joerg Sommermeyer) started at the tender age of ten with a dust-ridden 'beater' Harmony six-string acoustic dreadnought passed down from his father. While growing up in South Germany he first cut his teeth every evening around sundown while playing for his family. Later, he played in a band, hit the local scene and studied classical guitar with Victor von Hasselmann and Anton Stingl.
Eclecticist in the positive sense, in broadest terms between Classical Music, Blues, Country, Folk, Rock, transforming himself into the entire variation of styles, with elements of Jazz, without fear of venturing into Pop, for the past five years, JS (Joerg Sommermeyer) has been performing with his group The Black Djemba.
The band has enjoyed playing to their ever-increasing following in the Southern Germany Area and has gotten favourable reviews. Their material seems to be ever changing and hard to pin down categorically. What always remains the same is the unique and wide-ranging musical personality of JS (Joerg Sommermeyer).
The album "Total Overdrive" (http://www.cdbaby.com/js) offers a wide variety of styles: Eclectic and ambitious mix of Jazz, Blues, Funk, Folk, Rock, Pop, kind of lush-but-rootsy Crossover, Electronica, all original and fresh without ever seeming forced.
"Berlin Autumn" with a nice relaxed groove and a soothing jazzy guitar - this'll get you through the autumn and the winter too. The perfect music for cold, cloud-shrouded days when the weather can't decide to drizzle or snow.
The very impressionistic "The Total Overdrive" is always sexy with a nice bluesy touch of mouth harp, excellent electronic and rock sonics and a raw, funky groove. Listen & Love!
And the 8 other jewels, melodic, idiosyncratic, funky, great grooves, smooth vocals, new country with a rock edge, good urban contemporary music. The Album "Those Rocks & Lieders" (http://www.cdbaby.com/js2), the second release by JS (Joerg Sommermeyer), continues in his unique assorted style with poetic lyrics and colourful imagery, a compendium of 16 pieces, that present a common thread of expression. Tracks include acoustic guitar, vocals, harmonica, electric guitar, piano, bass and percussion.

Smooth, intelligent nuances, both atmospheric and high energy, straight forward. The songs were mostly written in 2003/2004.

  • Des émotions immenses
    author: Pauline Coimbatore, Marseille/Paris (France)

  • Highly original with good guitar work
    author: Tom Richey

You've never heard anybody like Joerg Sommermeyer. His music bombards you with every conceivable combination of tempos, instruments and styles. Being a guitarist, my favorite are the guitar solos (check out the solo on "Voluptuoso".) This is a CD well worth listening to. Highly recommended.

  • Splendid!
    author: Lance Surbig, London

"Intro - Polonaise (BWV Anhang 119)" - truly a splendid interpetation of the great work by Johann Sebastian Bach, masterly arranged and played by JS (Joerg Sommermeyer).

  • Uneingeschränkt zu empfehlen!
    author: Georg Metsch, Berlin

Alles Eigenkompositionen Joerg Sommermeyer's mit Ausnahme seiner bestrickenden Arrangements von Bachs Polonaise (BWV Anhang 119), des bekannten spanischen Volksliedes "El Noy De La Mare" und "What Shall We Do With The Drunken Sailor", diesem "Cross-Over", dieser "World-Tour de Force" mit Anverwandlung verschiedenster Fusionselemente. Uneingeschränkt zu empfehlen!

  • Nuovo astro nel firmamento del rock europeo?
    author: Maria Antonietta Pirandello, Napoli

  • Enjoyable, infectious and seamless music
    author: Rory Tomasia, Birmingham

Fabulous CD, love the songs! This music is enjoyable, infectious and seamless. There is not a bad track. Must have for any CD collection! My favourite tracks are "Intro - Polonaise (BWV Anhang 119)", "What Shall We Do With The Drunken Sailor" and "Recuerdos". Tracks like "Voluptuoso" and "Cafélectro" are high energy crowd-pleasers. "Jack" and " Cebrero " are hauntingly powerful.

  • Something different truly inspiring
    author: Bill T. Packard, Detroit

Try this if you're sick of hearing the same old thing and want to try something different. Creativity shines throughout the traditional tunes as well as the originals. JS (Joerg Sommermeyer) is truly inspiring.

  • Just great!

  • Aus dem Herzen für die Herzen
    author: Heinz Henneberg, Hamburg

Aus dem Herzen für die Herzen. Gitarren, die klagen, lachen, weinen, sich sehnen, Heimweh haben, jede Emotion auszudrücken vermögen, ein Kaleidoskop von Gefühlen.
