notes
Joy Missile fuses a variety of styles and influences to create a musical hybrid that rocks like a seesaw overridden by Pez-addled toddlers, grooves like an orangutan piloting a Russian spaceship before finally settling into a smooth blues landing to calm your nerves from the trip. All of the members have been active in the Chicagoland music scene for many years. Their first, self-titled CD from 2005 contains a refreshing mix of songs that sound new, yet are warmly familiar. They range from the upbeat melancholy funk of "Follow Me Down" to the swaggering, bluesy rock of "Sunshine" to the reggae-infused staccato stomp of "So You Know".
"Porcupine," another song from Joy Missile’s first CD, is currently in the Top 10 at www.bandradiolive.com, and won an honorable mention in the 2005 Billboard Song Contest. “Follow Me Down” remains high on the Myspace play list. The band was also proud to receive the Gold Viking award for Best Pop Band of 2007 from the “svensworldradio” podcast.
In 2007, Joy Missile has been focused on adding new material to the live show and completing their sophomore CD, targeted for release in October. The new CD continues to take the band’s positive vibe and push it even further. It will feature 8 new genre-bending songs recorded at Uptown Recording in Chicago. Samples from the new CD will be posted once the final mix is completed. Check out www.joymissile.com or www.myspace.com/joymissile for all the latest information about the band and the new CD.

Chrissy Hines Take Note
author: Live From New YorkThis CD has fabulous soul and a lead singer that gives Chrissy Hines a run for her money. Good sing-a-long tunes that will kick up your blues. Great for a road trip or a little umph to help get the dinner party started! Dave - thanks for sharing.
Poppy, bluesy and funky all at once
author: Mike O'Cull - Illinois EntertainerIllinois Entertainer - November, 2005 Joy Missile's sound is poppy, bluesy, and funky all at once, and they clearly demonstrate a high degree of musical skill. Vocalist Colleen O’Mara handles the musical shifts with ease, and the band supports her just like they should.
Puts our office in a very sunny, inspired mood
author: Chicago Suburban NiteLifeWhy We Picked This Band: It is no coincidence that the track list of this album is visually portrayed as rays of sunshine: Joy Missile puts our office in a very sunny, inspired mood. At first, Colleen O’Mara sounds exactly like Natalie Merchant. But with every progressive track, she reveals another genre that she can sing - most impressively, she sounds like the talented Monique Powell of Save Ferris in the beginning of “Follow Me Down.”
