notes

Spearheaded by Josh Spencer, Josiah’s Mirror consists of three musicians: Josh (lead guitar and vocals), Matthew (piano), and Jesse Spencer (drums). Being brothers in a musical family (both parents graduated with music degrees), all three grew up around music. Early on, they were taught basic piano skills, but as the brothers entered their teenage years they began to focus on specific instruments. Josh worked on the guitar, Matthew on the trumpet, and Jesse on the drums. Not just jam band musicians, the Spencer brothers began to play at several venues which allowed them to acquire needed experience and fine tune their skills.

During high school, Matthew and Jesse participated in concert band, marching band, pep band, and jazz band. Both auditioned into several honor bands, and both received The Louis Armstrong Jazz Award for leading the high school’s Jazz program and being actively engaged in Jazz. All three also played in many gigs with the All Star Jazz Band, an honor band in the school district.

At about this time, Josh started writing songs that would later be used on Papercut. Early in 2005 the brothers began working on Papercut, but Josh was very busy. It was his senior year, and in the spring of 2005 Joshua graduated from the University of Northern Colorado with a degree in Political science and a minor in Music. Shortly there after, he was commissioned into the Marine Corps as an officer. Fortunately, Joshua was able to finish the CD before he had to go to TBS (the basic school). Currently, the band continues to play and further their skills.
