notes
Josh Winiberg's writing has a maturity stretching way beyond his tender 17 years and he is without doubt, one of the most exciting new composers to emerge from the UK, well deserving of positive feedback from better known artists such as Ludovico Einaudi and David Nevue.
His eclectic influences range from Einaudi, Chopin and Jarrett to Bartók, Glass and Fauré, and the breadth of his instinctive musical literacy is staggering. This is a young man with an promising future ahead.
Josh has just started performing his compositions in the UK and almost immediately sold out of the first few hundred copies of his debut album 'Sunrise'.
Josh says: "This album was written at a particularly difficult point in my life - the time leading to my father's death - and it became a way of expressing myself.
If I had to sum up Sunrise in one phrase, it would be in the form of this metaphor, which was offered to me as a comfort during this difficult period, but later became a well of inspiration for me to draw upon: "Think of a sunrise. That sunrise will come only once and when it sets it's gone forever. But the next one will be just as beautiful, if not more so.
"Some of the pieces on this album are dark and introspective mirroring what the tragic situation which was taking place, but in general it is an album about hope and about finding calm in the chaos of life."
Josh is currently in the process of writing his third album, and his second album, 'The Creation' will be recorded and released later this year. In the meantime, he is performing around Europe and England, and - most noteably - is performing tracks from both Sunrise and The Creation at the prestigious Ravello Festival, Italy.
Whether you want music to relax to or a CD to really get your teeth into, Sunrise has something for everybody and has recieved nothing but excellent feedback.

I've been waiting for a cd like this one for a long time..as Einaudi said in his review there's too much of him in it, but that's only a good thing. He is an amazing artist (both of them) and I raccomand this album to everyone who has a real love for contemporary piano music
Not a bad track all through
author: Jason KarrHere we have a composer from England, with a real talent and passion for music. Whilst listening to this album you can feel the emoction seeping from every track. This is an album I would recommend to the fans of New Age solo Piano, and budding pianists alike. Check it out if you are interested in the piano, or ar elooking to get into the music of a piano. You will not be dissapointed. Thumbs up to Josh.
Josh has a musical maturity beyond his years.
author: Ian TomeyJosh has a musical maturity beyond his years and is certainly one to watch for the future.
Definitely a talent to watch.
author: Mark Cunningham, Total ProductionJosh is a wonderfully articulate performer who shows enormous promise as a composer and arranger. Definitely a talent to watch. I was driving along with Sunrise playing, and when I pulled up on my drive I actually listened to it, and was overwhelmed by emotion. I sat there - in my car - for the duration of the album, just reading the sleeve notes. I think I have just become Josh's biggest fan.
Full of character.
author: Ludovico EinaudiI think Josh is really talented. Sometimes there is still a little too much Einaudi in his inspiration, but I'm sure in the future he will find his clear own voice. Also, I think his piano playing is really good and full of character and with a nice control of the sound and breathe of the music. I was really moved by the program notes in the album. I wish Josh all my best for his future.
Wonderful Album. Creative, Original, Emotional
author: Rafille MirA wonderful debut album by Winiberg, which gently echoes the work of Einaudi and Nyman, but still has a great sense of originality. Each piece has been so carefully crafted to tell a beautiful story about a chapter of this young man's life. If you love the piano, then i recommend Sunrise to you. I expect many great things from this composer, as he is only 17 years old. This is the future of classical music. This is not just a CD, it is much more...
Buy it, you won't regret it!
author: ChrisBRILLIANT album!!! The style is very original (a good thing in this case!) and the music beautiful, yearning, relaxing and tragic at the same time. The tracks vary enormously in mood for New Age music. If you want something emotional: buy it! If you want something relaxing: buy it! Buy it, you won't regret it!
An excellent debut CD, and one that I have no hesitation in highly recommending.
author: StephenSunrise is a highly impressive debut CD from talented English pianist Josh Winiberg. The young piano player has drawn upon the unique skills of Ludovico Einaudi for inspiration, but here he finds his own voice in this very enjoyable 12-track CD. Josh's compositions are all solo piano. They are melodic and impress with their variation within pieces and between different pieces. The music is "New Age" in style, and I would compare his compositions to Russian pianist Kostia, and Canadian pianist Michael Jones. The recording quality is to a high standard, and Josh's technique as demonstrated on the piano, is to be admired. I thoroughly enjoyed the CD. Stand-out tracks include "Sunrise", "Reaching Beyond the Mist", "Tidal" and "Sunset". "Detached" was less accessible, but perhaps this signified a difficult time in the composer's life, and therefore has good reason for being less warm and melodic. Overall, an excellent debut CD, and one that I have no hesitation in highly recommending.
